Intracranial arterial stenosis and recurrence in stroke patients with different risk stratifications by Essen stroke risk score
CONCLUSION: ICAS was an independent predictor of both 3- and 12-month stroke recurrence in low-risk but not high-risk patients with minor ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack according to ESRS stratification.PMID:37724803 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2257415

Oxidative stress and early mortality in acute ischemic stroke: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: MDA serum level was significantly higher in non-survivors than in survivors patients, so MDA could be used as a predictor for early mortality and short-term outcome of cases with AIS.PMID:37652662 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2252284

Increased neuropil antibody prevalence in COVID-19 patients with acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Our results confirm the presence of neuropil antibodies in patients with COVID-19 infection and identify a putative antibody-driven association between AIS and COVID-19. The antigenic targets and potential pathogenic action of these antibodies need to be further explored.PMID:37634189 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2252282

Factors influencing recurrence after an ischemic stroke vary by sex
We examined relative factors associated with recurrent stroke in Chinese patients with first-ever ischemic stroke. LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) Cox regression were used to determine the predictors of recurrent stroke in the male and female groups. Next, We used Kaplan-Meier survival curves and interactions among these predictors to assess the association between relapse-related factors and recurrent stroke.RESULTS: During one year of follow-up, we documented 42 incidents of recurrent stroke in males and 15 in females. There was no significant difference in the overall recurrence rate between men ...

Elevated levels of total homocysteine after ischemic stroke: a potential marker for in-hospital outcomes
CONCLUSION: HHcy was associated with increased in-hospital stroke recurrence and CVD events among patients with IS. In low-folate regions, tHcy levels may potentially predict in-hospital outcomes after IS.PMID:36893016 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2022.2159137

The effect of robot-assisted walking in different modalities on cardiorespiratory responses and energy consumption in patients with subacute stroke
DISCUSSION: By decreasing GF and BWS values during robot-assisted walking, adequate cardio-metabolic and energy response in both subacute stroke patients and healthy individuals could be achieved. These results show us that it is important to consider the cardiorespiratory function of the patient when choosing training protocols.PMID:36884354 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2188520

Association between plasma trimethylamine-N-oxide and cognitive impairment in patients with transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSION: Plasma TMAO at baseline was independently associated with cognitive impairment at the 3-month follow-up after TIA. In addition, the inflammatory marker CRP may serve as an important mediator in this relationship. Our study may provide some insights into anti-inflammatory therapy to improve the cognitive trajectory of TIA patients with high TMAO levels.PMID:36789535 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2176632
