Late-Onset Asthma Predicts Cardiovascular Disease Events: The Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Epidemiology
BackgroundAsthma is a heterogeneous syndrome with different clinical subtypes that is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). We hypothesized that the late‐onset subtype of asthma is associated with a higher risk of incident CVD.Methods and ResultsParticipants from the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort free of CVD at baseline were followed for a mean (SD) of 13.9 (5.9) years for development of CVD (myocardial infarction, angina, stroke, coronary revascularization, heart failure, or CVD death). Late‐onset asthma was defined as physician‐diagnosed asthma at age ≥18 years. Multivariable Cox regressio...

Nocturnal Hypoxemia Due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea Is an Independent Predictor of Poor Prognosis After Myocardial Infarction Coronary Heart Disease
ConclusionsNocturnal hypoxemia in OSA is an important predictor of poor prognosis for patients after MI. These findings suggest that routine use of low‐cost nocturnal oximetry may be an economical and practical approach to stratify risk in post‐MI patients.

Impact of Sleep-Disordered Breathing on Long-Term Outcomes in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome Who Have Undergone Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions The study's results showed that the presence of SDB among patients with acute coronary syndrome following primary percutaneous coronary intervention is associated with a higher incidence of major adverse cardiocerebrovascular events during long-term follow-up.

Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation in U.S. Community Practice--Results From Outcomes Registry for Better Informed Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation (ORBIT-AF) Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions In U.S. clinical practice, a minority of patients with AF are managed with catheter ablation. Subsequent to ablation, there were no significant differences in oral anticoagulation use or outcomes, including stroke/non–central nervous system embolism/transient ischemic attack or death. Clinical Trial Registration URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT01165710.

Habitual Sleep Duration and Predicted 10-Year Cardiovascular Risk Using the Pooled Cohort Risk Equations Among US Adults Epidemiology
Conclusions Mean-predicted 10-year cardiovascular risk was lowest among adults who reported sleeping 7 hours per night and increased as participants reported sleeping fewer and more hours.
