Trunk Control Test as a main predictor of the modified Barthel Index score at discharge from intensive post-acute stroke rehabilitation: results from a multicentre Italian study
Despite advances in acute cerebrovascular disease treatment, stroke remains a catastrophic event causing a major public health burden, counting about 5 million deaths each year and 50% of persons surviving with chronic disability1. Intensive rehabilitation is recommended in patients with stroke in the post-acute phase2. Identifying early predictors of rehabilitation outcomes may provide support to clinical decision-making by determining patients at higher risk of low functional recovery for which targeted strategies may be implemented.

Response to Letter to the Editor on "Reliability of the Modified Ashworth Scale after stroke for 13 muscle groups"
To the editor: –We would like to thank the authors for acknowledging the clinical relevance of the information provided in our study.1 As we all know, the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) is the most commonly used outcome measure to assess spasticity in clinical settings. Like many other clinical tests, MAS has its limitations because it provides subjective information based on the resistance perceived by a rater during rapid passive movements.

Cognitive-and-motor therapy after stroke is not superior to motor and cognitive therapy alone to improve cognitive and motor outcomes: new insights from a meta-analysis
To evaluate whether cognitive-and-motor therapy (CMT) is more effective than no therapy, motor therapy or cognitive therapy on motor and/or cognitive outcomes after stroke. Additionally, this study evaluates whether effects are lasting, and which CMT approach is most effective.

More than 50% of people post-stroke have significant limitations in their ability to carry out day-to-day functional activities long term and are unable to effectively incorporate their impaired hand and arm during everyday tasks1,2. The disabling effects typically persist for many years after the initial stroke3,4. People with stroke often compensate by using the less impaired limb for daily activities, which may precipitate learned non-use and result in further deterioration of arm and hand function5.

Letter to the Editor on “Chronic Phase Survival Rate in Stroke Patients With Severe Functional Limitations According to the Frequency of Rehabilitation Treatment”
We have read with great interest the article by Park et al1 entitled “Chronic Phase Survival Rate in Stroke Patients with Severe Functional Limitations According to the Frequency of Rehabilitation Treatment.”1 They investigated the chronic phase survival rate (from 24 to 120 months after the onset) of stroke patients with severe functional limitations, according to the frequency of rehabilitation treatment from the stroke onset to 24 months after the stroke. For the study, data on 593 patients were collected from the Korea National Health Insurance Database from 2007 to 2018.
