Reticulated Platelets Predict Cardiovascular Death and Adverse Events in Coronary Artery Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Elevated RPs are significantly associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and cardiovascular death.PMID:37696301 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1773763

Tranexamic acid in a mouse model of cerebral amyloid angiopathy: setting the stage for a novel stroke treatment approach
CONCLUSION: Long-term TXA treatment does not alter brain Aβ levels or impact neurologic behavior in mice predisposed to amyloid deposition and had minor effects on the levels of inflammatory mediators. This finding supports the safety of TXA and lays the foundation for TXA as a novel treatment to reduce sICH in patients with CAA.PMID:37694270 | PMC:PMC10483050 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102166

Lipoprotein(a) and risk of cognitive impairment in Black and White Americans: the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke cohort
CONCLUSION: Higher Lp(a) was associated with increased risk of cognitive impairment in Black but not White individuals. Future studies should evaluate the biological and social mechanisms through which race and Lp(a) interact to increase risk of cognitive impairment.PMID:37694266 | PMC:PMC10491800 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102170

Non-vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulant, Warfarin, and ABC Pathway Adherence on Hierarchical Outcomes: Win Ratio Analysis of the COOL-AF Registry
CONCLUSION: This Win Ratio analysis demonstrates the significant benefits of NOACs over warfarin and ABC pathway adherence over nonadherence in reducing the composite outcome in patients with AF.PMID:37625457 | DOI:10.1055/s-0043-1772773

What is the diameter of a fibrin fiber?
CONCLUSION: We performed a systematic, multitechnique survey assessing fibrin fiber diameters under a range of biochemical conditions. The similarity in the diameter values obtained using SEM and superresolution imaging suggests that drying and fixation during SEM sample preparation do not dramatically alter fiber cross-sections. Congruence, under certain conditions, between diameter values obtained using SEM, superresolution fluorescence imaging, and turbidimetry demonstrates the feasibility of a fibrin diameter standardization project.PMID:37601015 | PMC:PMC10439396 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.100285

Thrombus composition and thrombolysis resistance in stroke
Res Pract Thromb Haemost. 2023 May 16;7(4):100178. doi: 10.1016/j.rpth.2023.100178. eCollection 2023 May.ABSTRACTA State of the Art lecture titled "Thrombus Composition and Thrombolysis Resistance in Stroke" was presented at the ISTH Congress in 2022. Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) remains the only pharmacologic option to re-establish cerebral perfusion at the acute phase of ischemic stroke. IVT is based on the administration of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator with the objective of dissolving fibrin, the major fibrillar protein component of thrombi. Almost 30 years on from its introduction, although the clinical b...
