Open Descending and Thoracoabdominal Aortic Repairs in Patients Younger than 50 Years Old
ConclusionsPatients under 50 years old with D/TAAA have low surgical risks and open repairs can be performed with excellent short-term and durable long-term results. Open surgical repairs should be considered initially in younger patients requiring D/TAAA repairs. HTAD warrants closer postoperative surveillance.

Anterior Leaflet Augmentation With CorMatrix Porcine Extracellular Matrix in Twenty-Five Patients: Unexpected Patch Failures and Histologic Analysis
Conclusions For type III MR, a large anterior leaflet patch technique with porcine ECM was associated with a 32% recurrence rate of severe MR related directly to patch failure. Further research and development should be performed on the use of ECM materials with a goal to decrease the failure rate experienced in this study.

Conclusions Even in patients older than 75 years, recent surgical results of conventional open arch repair were acceptable, especially in elective cases. Thus, conventional open surgical aortic arch replacement remains a good option, especially in patients with preserved renal function.
