Serum Bilirubin Associated with Stroke Severity and Prognosis: Preliminary Findings on Liver Function after Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: High Tbil and Dbil level within 48 hours of symptom onset could be an independent marker of severity of stroke on admission and discharge for all AIS patients. For patient with mild stroke, elevation of bilirubin after AIS suggests a good prognosis. Factors impact the adherence rate of prophylaxis for deep venous thrombosis in acute ischaemic stroke patients: an analysis of the China National Stroke Registry.
We examined the factors that impact the adherence rate of DVT prophylaxis in stroke patients from the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR). METHOD: Records of 12 173 acute ischaemic stroke patients with follow-up admitted to 132 hospitals in CNSR from September 1, 2007 to August 30, 2008 were reviewed. Data from 4643 patients eligible for DVT prophylaxis were analysed. Generalised estimating equations were used to identify the patient's and hospital's factors that impact the practice of DVT prophylaxis. Is serum total bilirubin useful to differentiate cardioembolic stroke from other stroke subtypes?

Risk factor profile in patients with stroke at a young age.
Conclusions Angiopathy is the most common risk factor for stroke at a young age. More than half of the patients with stroke at a young age have at least two independent risk factors for stroke. In the first two decades of life, the most frequent risk factors for stroke are heart diseases; arterial diseases play a dominant role in the consecutive three decades. Microalbuminuria in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: MAU was found in approximately one-third of patients with acute ischemic stroke. It was correlated with the severity of cerebral infarction at admission and clinical outcomes at 3 months after onset and could be used as a potential indicator of poor prognosis in ischemic stroke patients. Association between socioeconomic status and prognosis after ischemic stroke in South China.
Conclusions: Patients with low income, family caregiver, and no insurance have a poorer prognosis after ischemic stroke that can be partly explained by intermediate variable in the patients' demographic characteristics, cardiovascular disease, behavior lifestyle, and stroke severity. Serum CXCL12 levels are associated with stroke severity and lesion volumes in stroke patients.
