LncRNAGAS5 sponges miRNA-221 to promote neurons apoptosis by up-regulated PUMA under hypoxia condition.
Conclusions: the present study revealed that GAS5 aggravated cell apoptosis in hypoxia condition via miR-221/PUMA axis, which may provide potential targets for the treatment of stroke. PMID: 31878844 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neuroprotective effects of different frequency preconditioning exercise on neuronal apoptosis after focal brain ischemia in rats.
DISCUSSION: Our findings suggested that three times or more per week of high-intensity preconditioning exercise exert neuroprotective effects through the downregulation of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and caspase-3 activation after stroke. Exposure to female estrous is beneficial for male mice against transient ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Exposure to female estrous reduces mortality and improves functional recovery in MCAO male mice. The study provides the first evidence to support the importance of female interaction to male stroke rehabilitation. MiR-125b blocks Bax/Cytochrome C/Caspase-3 apoptotic signaling pathway in rat models of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury by targeting p53.
CONCLUSION: MiR-125b exerts protective effects on CIR injury through inhibition of Bax/Cytochrome C/Caspase-3signaling pathway via targeting p53, which is likely to be a promising treatment for CIR. ABBREVIATIONS: 3'-UTR: 3-untranslated region; CIR: cerebral ischemia-reperfusion; CIS: cerebral ischemic stroke; PFT-α: Pifithrin-α; PVDF: polyvinylidene fluoride; SD: Sprague-Dawley; TBST: tris buffered saline with tween. TTC staining: Triphenyl tetrazolinm chloride staining; TUNEL: Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling. PMID: 29956588 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Genistein attenuates brain damage induced by transient cerebral ischemia through up-regulation of Nrf2 expression in ovariectomized rats.
In this study, ovariectomized rats were treated with genistein (10 mg/kg) or vehicle daily for two weeks before they received middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and reperfusion. After 72 hours of reperfusion, the neurological function was evaluated by Garcia test, infarct volume was detected by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining, and neuronal damage was detected by Nissl staining. In addition, ROS production and the expression of Nrf2, NQO1 and cleaved-Caspase3 in the ischemic penumbra were detected. RESULTS: The results showed that genistein treatment significantly improved the neurological outcome, red...
