Renal Denervation Prevents Stroke and Brain Injury via Attenuation of Oxidative Stress in Hypertensive Rats Stroke
Conclusions Our present work provided the first experimental evidence that RD can prevent hypertensive stroke and brain injury, beyond blood pressure lowering, thereby highlighting RD as a promising therapeutic strategy for stroke as well as hypertension.

Comprehensive Stroke Centers May Be Associated With Improved Survival in Hemorrhagic Stroke Stroke
Conclusions Hemorrhagic stroke patients admitted to CSCs are more likely to receive neurosurgical and endovascular treatments and be alive at 90 days than patients admitted to other hospitals.

Increasing Incidence of Hospitalization for Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack in Young Adults: A Registry-Based Study Stroke
Conclusions The incidence rates of first-time hospitalizations for ischemic stroke and TIA in young Danish adults have increased substantially since the mid 1990s. The increase was particularly prominent in the most recent years.

Ischemic Stroke and Risk of Venous Thromboembolism in the General Population: The Tromso Study Epidemiology
ConclusionsThe risk of VTE increased during the first 3 months after an ischemic stroke. The particularly high risk of provoked VTE suggests that additional predisposing factors, such as immobilization, potentiate the VTE risk in patients with ischemic stroke.

China Stroke Primary Prevention Trial: Visit-to-Visit Systolic Blood Pressure Variability Is an Independent Predictor of Primary Stroke in Hypertensive Patients Stroke
ConclusionsVisit‐to‐visit SBP variability is an independent predictor of primary stroke in Chinese hypertensive patients. This predictive value depends on the number of blood pressure measurements used to calculate variability but is independent of mean SBP.Clinical Trial RegistrationURL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00794885.

Atrial Fibrillation, Stroke, and Anticoagulation in Medicare Beneficiaries: Trends by Age, Sex, and Race, 1992-2010 Stroke
Conclusions Ischemic stroke rates among Medicare AF patients decreased significantly in all demographic subpopulations from 1992–2010, coincident with increasing warfarin use. Ischemic stroke rates remained higher and warfarin use rates remained lower for women and blacks with AF, groups whose baseline CHADS scores were higher.

Long-Term Antiplatelet Mono- and Dual Therapies After Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack: Network Meta-Analysis Stroke
Conclusions Long-term monotherapy was a better choice than long-term dual therapy, and cilostazol had the best risk–benefit profile for long-term secondary prevention after stroke or transient ischemic attack. More randomized controlled trials in non–East Asian patients are needed to determine whether long-term use of cilostazol is the best option for the prevention of recurrent stroke.

"Life's Simple 7" and Long-Term Mortality After Stroke Stroke
Conclusions Achieving a greater number of ideal cardiovascular health metrics is associated with lower long-term risk of dying after stroke. Specifically targeting "Life's Simple 7" goals might have a profound impact, extending survival after stroke.

Forced Expiratory Volume in the First Second and Aldosterone as Mediators of Smoking Effect on Stroke in African Americans: The Jackson Heart Study Stroke
Conclusions Our findings suggest that the difference in stroke risk between current and never smokers may develop partially through pathways involving lung function and aldosterone and that the mediation effect through aldosterone is independent of blood pressure.

Ischemic Stroke in Children and Young Adults With Congenital Heart Disease Congenital Heart Disease
Conclusions The risk of developing ischemic stroke was almost 11 times higher in young patients with CHD than in the general population, although absolute risk is low. Cardiovascular comorbidities were strongly associated with the development of ischemic stroke in young CHD patients.

Derivation and Validation of a Modified Short Form of the Stroke Impact Scale Stroke
Conclusions Using multiple, complementary methods, we have derived an SF-SIS and demonstrated content, convergent, and discriminant validity. This shortened SIS should allow collection of robust quality of life data with less associated test burden.

Cardiac Vulnerability to Cerebrogenic Stress as a Possible Cause of Troponin Elevation in Stroke Stroke
Conclusions Certain cardiac and neurological conditions in acute ischemic stroke may contribute to troponin elevation. The proposed concept of cardiac vulnerability to cerebrogenic stress can be a practical interpretation of troponin elevation and electrocardiography abnormalities in stroke patients.

Incidence of First Stroke in Pregnant and Nonpregnant Women of Childbearing Age: A Population-Based Cohort Study From England Epidemiology
ConclusionsAlthough the absolute risk of first stroke is low in women of childbearing age, healthcare professionals should be aware of a considerable increase in relative risk during the peripartum and early postpartum periods.

Paradoxical Association of Smoking With In-Hospital Mortality Among Patients Admitted With Acute Ischemic Stroke Stroke
Conclusions Similar to myocardial ischemia, smoking was independently associated with lower inpatient mortality in acute ischemic stroke. This effect may be due to tobacco-induced changes in cerebrovascular vasoreactivity, or may be due in part to residual confounding. Larger, multicenter studies are needed to confirm the finding and the effect on 30-day and 1-year mortality.
