A multicenter, open label study (PRISM-II) was conducted to assess effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of dextromethorphan and quinidine (DM/Q) combination for the treatment of pseudobulbar affect (PBA) in patients with stroke, dementia, or traumatic brain injury (TBI). Enrollment has now completed for the cohort of patients with PBA secondary to dementia (results already reported), stroke, and TBI; results for the TBI cohort will be presented.

Initial Response to Prism Treatment in an Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital Setting: Preliminary Results
Strabismus (misaligned eyes) and homonymous field defects (HFD, loss of visual field on the same side in both eyes) commonly result from stroke and brain injury and are routinely treated with temporary press-on prisms in outpatient vision clinics. These temporary lenses, which can be immediately applied to the existing glasses, might be ideal for inpatients. Early treatment might allow better participation in therapy and improved outcomes; however, it is unknown whether patients will tolerate press-on prisms so early after the neurological injury.
