Development and Clinical Application of New Comprehensive Limb and Oral Apraxia Test in Stroke Patients
Apraxia is a common cognitive motor deficit that can occur after a stroke but there is no standardized apraxia test for Korean stroke patients. We developed and standardized the Limb and Oral Apraxia Test (LOAT) for Korean patients and investigated its reliability, validity, and clinical usefulness for stroke patients.

The Pillars of Stroke Victor Recovery: Lessons for Caregivers to Make the Big Difference
To give survivors and their caregiver partners the elements of a concrete roadmap to successful stroke recovery maximization, particularly after reimbursed therapy is terminated. A secondary objective is to elevate the importance of the caregiver partner so that they are taken more seriously in the stroke recovery process. Having visited several overseas countries it became clear that there is a need for a realistic, compassionate and tested approach to extending the stroke recovery window in America.

Improving Activity Engagement in Stroke Survivors and Care-Partners Through a Positive Psychology Intervention
Stroke affects activity participation for survivors and their care-partners. We developed a positive-psychology intervention for couples coping with stroke to promote activity engagement and well-being. The purpose of this study was to explore changes in activity participation and engagement experienced by stroke survivors and their care-partners following the intervention and to identify potential clinical implications.

Chronic Stroke Survivors Experience Continued Impairment of Dexterity but not Strength in the Nonparetic Upper Limb
To investigate the performance of the less affected upper limb in people with stroke, compared to normative values. To examine less affected upper limb function in those whose pre-stroke dominant limb became paretic and those whose pre-stroke non-dominant limb became paretic.

Differential association of serum BDNF with post-stroke depression and post-stroke anxiety
To investigate the correlation between brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and risk factors as well as functional outcome in post-stroke depression (PSD) or post-stroke anxiety (PSA).

Asymmetry of Reflex Thresholds Between Contralateral Limbs in Hemispheric Stroke Survivors and Dominant Limbs in Neurologically Intact Individuals
To investigate the difference in stretch reflex thresholds between the contralateral limb in hemispheric stroke survivors and the dominant limb of neurologically intact individuals. We hypothesize that after hemispheric stroke, alterations in the excitability of the reticulospinal tract affects neurons on both sides of the spinal cord, and thereby contributes to hyperexcitability of reflex pathways on both sides of stroke survivors (as compared to neurologically intact subjects).

Timing of Propulsion-Related Biomechanical Variables is Impaired in Individuals with Post-Stroke Hemiparesis
In individuals with post-stroke hemiparesis, reduced dorsiflexion excursion, plantarflexor moment, and ankle power contribute to reduced propulsion, measured through anterior ground reaction forces (AGRF). While reduction in the magnitude of propulsion post-stroke is well studied, here, our objective was to compare the timing of propulsion-related biomechanical variables in post-stroke and able-bodied (AB) individuals.

Game-based Unilateral Movement Facilitates Acute Priming Effect in Stroke
Cortical priming is an emerging strategy to enhance motor recovery after stroke, however, limited information exists on the neuromodulator effects of lower limb movement-based priming to improve corticomotor excitability after stroke. Our research objective was to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of game-based ankle movement priming using a wearable motion tracking system (DIG-I-PRIME ™) on corticomotor excitability and motor behavior in chronic stroke survivors

Status of dysphagia after ischemic stroke: A Korean nationwide study
Post-stroke dysphagia is a common symptom in stroke patients. It is known that 13% to 18% of patients have persistent symptoms of dysphagia until 6 months after onset.1, 2 Dysphagia increases the risks of aspiration, associated complications (e.g., aspiration pneumonia), malnutrition, poor prognostic outcomes,3 and increased mortality.4 Early detection and treatment of dysphagia in stroke patients are crucial to prevent adverse complications, decrease the length of hospital stay, and reduce the health-care costs.

Developing Personas to Inform The Creation of Novel Interventions to Improve Participation Among People With Stroke During COVID-19
People living with disabilities have been found to experience reduced participation during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to inform interventions to improve physical activity and social participation in stroke survivors, we created personas to inform the design and development of products targeting stroke patients during life-changing events such as pandemics after stroke

Identifying Functional Hand Use and Hand Roles of Stroke Survivors in Activities of Daily Living Using Egocentric Video
To identify hand use and hand roles of stroke survivors using videos from wearable cameras (egocentric videos). Upper limb (UL) function evaluated in the clinic may not reflect hand use in activities of daily living (ADLs) after stroke. Accelerometers have been applied to capture UL use, but also fail to reveal details of hand function. In response, a system composed of an egocentric camera and computer vision approaches is proposed to detect functional hand use and identify the role of the affected hand (stabilizer or manipulator) after stroke in unconstrained environments.
