Mastering the Learning Curve for Robotic-Assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Robotic-assisted CABG can be performed safely with excellent results even during a surgeon's early experience. However, the learning curve to achieve mastery is longer than required to achieve competency with a threshold of approximately 250-500 cases.PMID:36848999 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.02.045

Outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients with Concomitant Aortic Regurgitation
CONCLUSIONS: TAVR can be safely performed in patients with mixed valvular disease, yielding comparable outcomes as in isolated AS.PMID:36791833 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.02.008

Isolated Tricuspid Operations: Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Isolated tricuspid repair was associated with lower adjusted mortality and morbidities than replacement. Beating heart operation was associated with lower adjusted major morbidities. Pre-operative MELD scores may identify high-risk patients, and referral to higher volume centers may help improve outcomes.PMID:36696939 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.12.041

Aortic Reoperation After Prior Acute Type A Aortic Dissection Repair: Don't Despair the Repair
CONCLUSIONS: Reoperation after ATAD repair can be safely performed as an elective procedure at experienced centers. Staged distal interventions utilizing classic elephant trunk insertion and open repair above the celiac axis showed durable outcomes.PMID:36653324 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.10.021

Role of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring in Preventing Stroke after Cardiac Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Permanent EEG change and diabetes were significant postoperative stroke predictors in cardiac surgeries. Furthermore, overall survival out to 10-years postoperatively was significantly higher in the group without intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring changes, emphasizing its important predictive role.PMID:36634835 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.01.004

Outcomes of Root Enlargement Versus Root Replacement for Aortic Stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: ARE and stentless xenograft ARR for aortic stenosis were associated with comparable postoperative complications, aortic valve reinterventions, freedom from readmission, and 5-year survival.PMID:36584836 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.12.027

Sixth Annual Pediatric Interagency Registry for Mechanical Circulatory Support (Pedimacs) Report
CONCLUSIONS: This Sixth Pedimacs Report demonstrates the continued evolution of the pediatric field. The complexity of cardiac physiologies and anatomical constraint mandates the need for multiple types of devices utilized (PC, PP, IC). Detailed analyses of each device type in this report provide valuable information to further advance the care of this challenging and vulnerable population.PMID:36402175 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2022.10.042
