Current Anticoagulant Usage Patterns and Determinants in Korean Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: Renal disease and history of valvular heart disease were associated with warfarin use, while cancer and smoking status were associated with direct OAC use in high stroke risk patients. The combination of antiplatelet agents with OAC was prescribed in 73.6% of patients without definite indications recommended by guidelines. PMID: 31997620 [PubMed - in process]

MRI Assessment of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease in Patients with Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage.
CONCLUSION: All MRI markers for SVD were worse in ICH patients than in healthy controls, and these markers were prominent even in young ICH patients. Lacunae, WMH, EPVS, and CMB should be considered as factors related with spontaneous ICH. PMID: 31347333 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence and Clinical Outcomes of Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis in Patients Undergoing Concurrent Coronary and Carotid Angiography.
CONCLUSION: Asymptomatic CAS was documented in up to 25% of patients with CAD. The presence of CAS in patients with CAD was associated with a higher rate of MACCEs. Therefore, detection of CAS by carotid angiography during CAG may be important for risk stratification for CAD patients, particularly those with multi-vessel disease. Label Adherence for Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants in a Prospective Cohort of Asian Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSION: In real-world practice, more than one-third of patients with NOAC prescriptions received an off-label reduced dose, which could result in an increased risk of stroke. Considering the high risk of stroke in these patients, on-label use of NOAC is recommended. PMID: 30799590 [PubMed - in process]

Antithrombotic Medication and the Risk of Vitreous Hemorrhage in Atrial Fibrillation: Korean National Health Insurance Service National Cohort.
CONCLUSION: Dual antiplatelet or triple therapy increased the risk of VH significantly, compared to warfarin monotherapy. Considering the low efficacy of preventing ischemic stroke and high risk of bleeding, dual or triple therapy using warfarin and antiplatelet agents should be avoided to prevent VH in AF patients. Increased Uptake of AV-1451 in a Subacute Infarction Lesion.
Abstract ¹⁸F-AV-1451 is a tau PET ligand that has high affinity for paired helical filament tau. However, various off-target bindings unrelated to tau have also been reported. Herein, we report a case of 83-year-old woman, who showed abnormal uptake of AV-1451 that was shown to be subacute infarction. Clinicians should recognize that increased uptake of AV-1451 may be related to stroke. PMID: 29749140 [PubMed - in process]
