A Common Data Language for Clinical Research Studies: The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and National Library of Medicine Cerebral Aneurysms and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Common Data Elements Version 1.0 Recommendations (P3.169)
Conclusions:NINDS encourages the use of CDEs by the clinical research community in order to standardize data collection across studies. The NINDS CDEs are a continually evolving resource, requiring updates as research advancements indicate. These newly developed SAH CDEs serve to be a valuable starting point for researchers and facilitate streamlining and sharing data. Information provided at this meeting will include examples of how the SAH CDEs and CRFs may be used by a research study, demonstrations of navigating the NINDS CDE and NIH CDE Repository websites and submitting feedback.Study Supported by: This project was f...

Language competence and brain structural integrity in children with perinatal stroke (P3.205)
Conclusions:The right hemisphere (RH) may play a more prominent role in language development than commonly assumed. This is consistent with other studies indicating early RH involvement in language and at odds with the assumption that the left hemisphere is "hard-wired" to be dominant for language from birth. It may also be the case that complex interactions between hemispheres are required to facilitate language development.Study Supported by:Supported by NIH #P50 NS22343 (D Trauner, PI)Disclosure: Dr. Trauner has received research support from Novartis. Stroke in women: Results from the Mashhad Stroke Incidence Study (MSIS), a population based study in the Middle-East (P3.251)
Conclusions:A relatively higher rate of stroke in women needs a prompt action in primary and secondary prevention of stroke in developing countries. Larger population-based studies are required to resolve the underlying reasons for higher incidence rate among women, in particularly for ischemic and intracerebral hemorrhage types in this age band.Disclosure: Dr. Amiri has nothing to disclose. Circadian variation in patients with cryptogenic stroke and patent foramen ovale (P3.252)
Conclusions:These data suggest that strokes occur more frequently in the morning hours in patients with CS and PFO. Hypertension is significantly lower in patients with symptom onset between 0601 and 1200, which may further imply embolism as the potential mechanism of stroke in these patients. Further studies with larger datasets are required to investigate the circadian variation of PFO-attributable strokes.Disclosure: Dr. Daneshmand has nothing to disclose. Elevated Serum Creatinine Predicts Higher Mortality in Stroke Patients (P3.254)
Conclusions:Abnormal renal function at the time of stroke admission was noted in older male patients with hypertension and reduced pre-stroke eGFR. High stroke admission Cr level was a significant predictor of mortality. High risk patients needs to be identified and aggressively treated to reduce mortality risks.Disclosure: Dr. Ibrahim has nothing to disclose. Dr. Rayyis has nothing to disclose. Prevalence of Ischemic Stroke in Cohort of Ulcerative Colitis Patients (P3.256)
Conclusions:In our cohort of ulcerative colitis patients, prevalence of ischemic stroke was 6000 per 100,000 which is not significantly different than the general population. However, in the under 60 age group prevalence of ischemic stroke is twice as that of the general population. Further population based cohort studies are needed to elucidate actual incidence in this high-risk group for early intervention.Study Supported by: No funding.Disclosure: Dr. Horta has nothing to disclose. To describe symptomatology and etiological factors of posterior fossa strokes involving only the basilar artery. (P3.257)
Conclusions:Muscle weakness, language changes were the primary symptoms recorded when patients presented with posterior fossa strokes involving only the basilar artery. LVAT and cardio-embolism were the primary etiologies. This study elucidates symptoms to look for when patients present with muscle weakness as well as language changes, and emphasizes the possibility of cardiac causes of posterior fossa strokes involving purely the basilar artery.Study Supported by:The patients evaluated with only basilar stroke and at least one of the following symptoms: 72.6% (53/73) muscle weakness, 64.4% (47/73) language changes, 40.0% ...
