Hyperglycemic chorea/hemiballism ascertained at a large medical center over 15 years: Frequency & characteristics (P2.019)
Conclusions:Hyperglycemia is common, but chorea triggered by hyperglycemia appears to be rare, with only seven cases identified at Mayo-Rochester during 15 years of surveillance. It tended to spare younger people and was primarily seen in later life (median age, 80). In the majority (4/7), it occurred in new-onset diabetes. It may be mistaken for a stroke, given the unilateral presentation (6/7). Although MRI putamen T1-hyperintensity is typical, this was absent in the majority (4/7). This syndrome responds to dopamine blocking or depleting medications.Disclosure: Dr. Ryan has nothing to disclose. Dr. Ahlskog has nothing t...

Historical Perspective of Cambodian Medicine with a focus on Neurology (P2.051)
Conclusions:The Keck School of Medicine of USC received a grant from World Federation of Neurology, which allowed faculty to travel to Cambodia and teach the clinical and diagnostic aspects of neurology over the course of two years. We expect a neurology residency to start in 2017 to help the patient population that suffers from stroke, seizure disorders and various other types of neurological disorders. Even though the past has had its rough patches, the future has untapped potential.Study Supported by: This study was supported by World Federation of Neurology.Disclosure: Dr. Singh has nothing to disclose. Development and Validation of a Patient Centered Young Stroke Outcome Measure Tool (P2.056)
Conclusions:Standardized clinical assessments are not sensitive to disabilities in young stroke survivors. When compared to standardized clinical assessments, the young stroke questionnaire is significantly capable of differentiating the young survivor perspective of the impact of stroke, specifically in area of relationships and healthcare resources.Disclosure: Dr. Kothari has nothing to disclose. Neurofilament light chain as a serum marker for cerebral small vessel disease (P2.096)
Conclusions:In conclusion, serum NFL levels were strongly related to MR-imaging markers as well as clinical and cognitive symptoms of SVD. For disability and dependence there was an added value of serum NFL levels beyond imaging markers. Potentially, serum NFL may serve as a marker of disease burden and progression in SVD.Disclosure: Dr. Duering has nothing to disclose. Dr. Tiedt has nothing to disclose. Predicting long term cognitive outcomes after stroke using pre and post-stroke cognitive trajectories. (P2.098)
Conclusions:The rate of decline in cognition after stroke is predicted by rate of decline prior to stroke. Furthermore, greater change in rate of cognitive decline after incident stroke predicts dementia in individuals who were normal at the time of stroke. This may be a marker of both ongoing cerebrovascular injury and underlying neurodegenerative pathology.Disclosure: Dr. Thomas has nothing to disclose. Dr. Mattek has nothing to disclose. Severe recurrent neuroinflammation associated with cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA4) haploinsufficiency (P1.330)
Conclusions:CTLA4 mutations are associated with a distinct pattern of neuroinflammation. Supported by available pathology, the clinical-radiological discordance suggests that even large, enhancing lesions need not be destructive, even when behaving as space-occupying masses. Further characterization and modeling of this genetic disorder may provide insight into the mechanisms underlying other neuroimmunological disorders.Study Supported by: Fellowship funding from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-American Brain Foundation. Predictive Variables of Cognitive Dysfunction in Patients with Lupus (P1.340)
Conclusions:Duration of disease and low educational level are predictors of CD in patients with SLE. Depression and anxiety did not influence cognitive performance. Although cardiovascular comorbidity is a risk factor for dementia in general population, those variables might play a minor role in SLE patients.Study Supported by:Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) (grant #2015/08833-7) supported this study.Disclosure: Dr. Alessi has nothing to disclose.
