P005/44 Using the pEGASUS-stent with antithrombogenic properties and single antiplatelet therapy in a case of thrombectomy
IntroductionRescue stenting is used more and more in stroke cases with large-vessel-occlusion or medium-vessel-occlusion refractory to mechanical thrombectomy. The pEGASUS-stent(Phenox) represents a device which is equipped with a hydrophilic polymer coating(HPC) with antithrombogenic properties. The coating allows for implantation under single antiplatelet therapy, thus possibly reducing the risk of bleeding in acute stroke cases.Case HistoryA 79-year-old woman was rushed to emergency room due to left-sided hemiparesis and National-Institutes-of-Health-Stroke-Scale(NIHSS) of 14. Computed-tomography-image showed an occlusi...

Acute coronary syndrome in very elderly patients —a real-world experience
AbstractVery elderly population constitutes an increasingly larger proportion of patients admitted for acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Notably, age represents both a proxy of frailty and an exclusion criterion in clinical randomized trials, which probably contributes to lack of data and undertreatment of real-world elderly patients. The aim of the study is to describe patterns of treatment and outcome of very elderly patients with ACS. All consecutive patients aged  ≥ 80 years old (yo) admitted between January 2017 and December 2019 with ACS were included. The primary endpoint was in-hospital occurrence of major adv...

Ischemic Stroke Management: Posthospitalization and Transition of Care
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Jul;108(1):70-77.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack exist on a continuum of the same disease process. Ischemic stroke is common, and more than 85% of stroke risk is attributed to modifiable risk factors. The initial management of acute stroke is usually performed in the emergency department and hospital settings. Family physicians have a key role in follow-up, ensuring that a complete diagnostic evaluation has been performed, addressing modifiable risk factors, facilitating rehabilitation, and managing chronic s...

New VOYAGER PAD Analysis Confirms Consistent Benefit of XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) Plus Aspirin Following Lower Extremity Revascularization (LER)
TITUSVILLE, NJ, March 5, 2023 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced data from a new prespecified analysis from the Phase 3 VOYAGER PAD clinical trial reinforcing the benefits of the XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) vascular dose (2.5 mg twice daily plus aspirin 100 mg once daily) over standard of care (aspirin alone), demonstrating consistent benefit at 30 days, 90 days and up to three years following LER in patients with PAD. Lower extremity revascularization, also called peripheral revascularization, is a procedure that restores blood flow in blocked arteries or veins. This analysis of ...

Treatment of progressive ischemic stroke with low ‑dose eptifibatide: A retrospective case‑control study
Exp Ther Med. 2022 Nov 22;25(1):22. doi: 10.3892/etm.2022.11721. eCollection 2023 Jan.ABSTRACTProgressive ischemic stroke (PIS) is a therapeutic challenge in clinical practice. The present retrospective study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of eptifibatide in the treatment of PIS. The present study enrolled patients with PIS admitted to Xiangtan Central Hospital (Xiangtan, China) between March 2020 and March 2021 with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) progression scores of ≥2 points during the initial 72 h. Patients were then divided into two groups according to their different anti-pla...

Effects of Different Doses of Clopidogrel plus Early Rehabilitation Therapy on Motor Function and Inflammatory Factors in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Jun 14;2022:9692382. doi: 10.1155/2022/9692382. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThis prospective randomized controlled study was intended to assess the effects of different doses of clopidogrel plus early rehabilitation therapy on motor function and inflammatory factors in patients with ischemic stroke. Between August 2018 and October 2020, 90 cases of ischemic stroke treated in the Second People's Hospital of Yibin were randomized at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive either oral 50 mg/d clopidogrel plus early rehabilitation therapy (low-dose group) or oral 75 mg/d clopidogrel plus early rehabil...
