Neurobiology of amphetamine use in stroke recovery combined with rehabilitative training and brain stimulation
CNS Neurol Disord Drug Targets. 2022 May 12. doi: 10.2174/1871527321666220512155811. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is a physiological disorder involving a prolonged local interruption of cerebral blood flow. It leads to massive neuronal death and causes short-term or long-lasting functional impairment. Most stroke victims regain some neural function weeks or months following a stroke, but this recovery can plateau six months or more after the injury. The goal of stroke therapy is the rehabilitation of functional capabilities, especially those affecting the patient's autonomy and quality of life. Recent clinical and ...

E-Health Ultrasonic Diagnostic Monitoring for Analysis of Cardiac Insufficiency and Neuronal Regulation in Patients with Sepsis in Emergency Department under Image Reconstruction Algorithm
Comput Math Methods Med. 2022 Jan 6;2022:9415694. doi: 10.1155/2022/9415694. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTAn anisotropic diffusion filtering- (ADF-) ultrasound (ADF-U) for ultrasound reconstruction was constructed based on the ADF to explore the diagnostic application of ultrasound imaging based on electronic health (E-health) for cardiac insufficiency and neuronal regulation in patients with sepsis. The 144 patients with sepsis were divided into an experimental group (78 patients with cardiac insufficiency) and a control group (66 patients with normal cardiac function), and another 58 healthy people were included in a blank c...

Preworkout Supplement Induced Hemorrhagic Stroke: A Case Report
Abstract: Hemorrhagic stroke is a catastrophic cause of both long-term morbidity and mortality. Many risk factors for development of these strokes are in fact preventable or modifiable in nature. This case report outlines an incident involving a previously healthy 24-year-old man with no apparent risk factors apart from consumption of preworkout supplementation who developed a hemorrhagic stroke. The supplements that this particular patient was consuming included various potential causative agents—with the most significant being Dendrobium extract, which contains compound B-phenylethylamine, a precursor in the amphet...

Stimulants May Pose Short-Term Cardiovascular Risks in Older Adults
Older adults prescribed stimulant medications appear to be at an elevated risk of cardiovascular problems in the first 30 days after beginning the treatment, according to astudy published today inJAMA Network Open. However, these risks decrease over time, with no evidence of increased cardiovascular risk at six months and one year after initiating treatment.“Although stimulants are most commonly used among children and youth for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), an increase in stimulant use among older adults in recent years has been observed,” wrote Mina Tadrous, PharmD., Ph.D., of the ...

Internal carotid artery and bilateral vertebral arteries dissections associated with amphetamine abuse: Case report
We reported the Case of a 40-year-old male patient with chronic amphetamine used since childhood. He had increased the consumption from once a month to every other day in the last year. The patient suffered from acute left-side hemiparesis and neglect. Computed tomography angiography of the brain and neck vessels demonstrated non-atheromatous vasculopathy with a suspected dissection process of the right internal carotid artery and bilateral vertebral arteries. A review of recent data is also provided to clarify the possible mechanism.PMID:34401140 | PMC:PMC8353386 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2021.102676

A Case of Alpha-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone (Flakka)-Induced Ischemic Stroke
We present a case report of an acute ischemic stroke following the recreational use of α-PVP. The ischemic lesions were located in the midd le cerebral artery and deep watershed areas of the left cerebral hemisphere. Occupational therapy and physiotherapy were initiated, and the patient was discharged with only a mild right hemiparesis.Case Rep Neurol 2021;13:131 –134

Rising Trends in Hospitalizations for Cardiovascular Events among Young Cannabis Users (18-39 Years) without Other Substance Abuse.
Conclusions: The rising trends in hospitalizations for acute cardiovascular events among young cannabis users without concomitant other substance abuse call for future prospective well-designed studies to assess cannabis-related short-and long-term cardiovascular implications while simultaneously developing focused interventions towards raising awareness among the young population regarding the potential deleterious effects of cannabis use.
