Secukinumab Ameliorates Oxidative Damage Induced by Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion in Rats
CONCLUSION: IR injury was found to cause oxidative and histopathological changes in rat brain tissues, and secukinumab treatment ameliorated these pathological effects. Inflammatory mechanisms play an important role in both atherosclerosis and stroke. There are several inflammatory peripheral blood count markers associated with carotid artery stenosis degree, symptomatic carotid artery lesions and carotid artery stent restenosis that reported in previous studies. However, the prognostic role of the blood cell counts and their ratios in predicting in-hospital and long-term outcomes in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting (CAS) has not been comprehensively investigated.

Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is commonly utilized to evaluate the peri-operative immune-nutritional status of patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery and is independently associated with survival. We assessed the association between immune-nutritional status, indexed by PNI, and outcomes in CAS patients.

Considering the critical role of early action in management of stroke, there is still a need for a biomarker that would reliably assist in the early diagnosis and patient selection for tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) therapy, which has provided a considerable success in terms of mortality and morbidity of patients with stroke. This is particularly important if this novel biochemical marker that could give rapid results, specific for brain damage and that can be used in the emergency setting for early diagnosis and differentiation from other conditions that mimics some stroke findings [1,2].

Policy makers and advocates appeal for European governments to adopt a national focus on stroke prevention
Coinciding with the World Health Organization (WHO) European Ministerial Conference on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases in Turkmenistan, MEPs, patient and physician representatives are today (December 3rd) meeting at the European Parliament to highlight that urgent national action is required to prevent stroke. "Stroke is a growing burden on our healthcare services but more importantly has a devastating impact on survivors and their families," said MEP Nessa Childers.
