Epilepsy-Heart Syndrome: Incidence and Clinical Outcomes of Cardiac Complications in patients with Epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: The large proportions of PWE with active disease that experience CVEs and the poor long-term outcome associated suggest the existence of an 'epilepsy-heart syndrome'.PMID:37295636 | DOI:10.1016/j.cpcardiol.2023.101868

Complementary prognostic value of stress perfusion imaging and global coronary flow reserve derived from cardiovascular magnetic resonance: a long-term cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: During long-term follow-up, stress perfusion CMR and global CFR derived from CS flow measurement provided complementary prognostic value for prediction of cardiovascular events. Microvascular dysfunction or diffuse atherosclerosis as shown by impaired global CFR may play a role as important as that of ischemia due to epicardial coronary stenosis in the risk stratification of CAD patients.PMID:36927677 | PMC:PMC10018821 | DOI:10.1186/s12968-023-00930-3

Discovery of a brain-sparing GIRK1/4 inhibitor for pharmacological cardioversion of atrial fibrillation
Bioorg Med Chem Lett. 2023 Mar 15;85:129237. doi: 10.1016/j.bmcl.2023.129237. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and a significant risk factor for ischemic stroke and heart failure. Marketed anti-arrhythmic drugs can restore sinus rhythm, but with limited efficacy and significant toxicities, including potential to induce ventricular arrhythmia. Atrial-selective ion channel drugs are expected to restore and maintain sinus rhythm without risk of ventricular arrhythmia. One such atrial-selective channel target is GIRK1/4 (G-protein regulated inwardly rectifying potass...

Associations of the Serum Total Carbon Dioxide Level with Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Sepsis Survivors
ConclusionPatients discharged from hospitalization for sepsis have higher risks of worse long-term clinical outcomes. Physicians may need to pay more attention to sepsis survivors whose TCO2 was low.

Outcomes of isolated CABG from “OPCAB favor institution” for patients with left ventricular dysfunction
ConclusionIn our institute, ONCAB was selected for the patients who could not complete treatment with OPCAB due to poor preoperative circulatory status. Our treatment policy for the patients with impaired cardiac function was acceptable.

Serum visfatin concentrations are positively associated with ventricular arrhythmias: a single-center preliminary study
DISCUSSION: Serum visfatin levels were significantly elevated in the patients with VA, and increased with the risk rating of VA.PMID:36422477 | DOI:10.55730/1300-0144.5492

Ventricular arrhythmia burden in patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillator and remote patient monitoring during different time intervals of the COVID-19 pandemic
ConclusionsThe lockdown measures necessary to reduce the risk of infection during the COVID-19 pandemic, led to a reduction of in-person patient visits, but did not result in a deterioration of the arrhythmic and clinical condition of ICD patients with remote patient monitoring.

Blood ‐based biomarkers for the prediction of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy prognosis: a systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsSeveral blood-based biomarkers were identified as predictors of HCM outcomes. Additional studies are required to validate their prognostic utility within current risk stratification models.

Long-term cardiovascular outcomes and temporal trends in patients diagnosed with ANCA-associated vasculitis: a Danish nationwide registry study
ConclusionsPatients with AAV are at increased risk of heart failure, atrial-/ventricular arrhythmias, venous thrombotic events, ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction. Furthermore, patients with AAV were more frequently examined with coronary procedures and underwent more coronary revascularizations. No temporal changes in ischaemic cardiovascular outcomes were observed, albeit the cardiovascular mortality has decreased over time.
