The effect of butylphthalide on improving the neurological function of patients with acute anterior circulation cerebral infarction after mechanical thrombectomy
Medicine (Baltimore). 2023 Aug 25;102(34):e34616. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000034616.ABSTRACTButylphthalide can improve blood circulation in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Complement 3a receptor 1 (C3aR1) is involved in the regulation of innate immune response and pathogen monitoring, which is closely related to the pathophysiological processes of breast cancer, neurogenesis and lipid catabolism. Our study explored the therapeutic effect of butylphthalide on improving the neurological function of patients with acute anterior circulation cerebral infarction after mechanical thrombectomy, and evaluated the correlatio...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3060: Arterial Thrombosis in Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Incidence and Risk Factors
Conclusions: Our study showed that patients with AML are at increased risk of ATE. The risk was increased in patients with cardiovascular comorbidities, previous thrombosis, adverse cytogenetic risk as well as BMI > 30.

Tumor Genomic Profile Is Associated With Arterial Thromboembolism Risk in  Patients With Solid Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: In a large genomic tumor-profiling registry of patients with solid cancers, alterations in KRAS and STK11 were associated with an increased risk for ATE independent of cancer type. Further investigation is needed to elucidate the mechanism by which these mutations contribute to ATE in this high-risk population.PMID:37144118 | PMC:PMC10152200 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaccao.2023.01.009

Arterial and Venous Thromboembolism in ALK-Rearrangement-Positive Non-small Cell Lung Cancer: A Population-Based Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we observed a higher VTE risk, but not ATE risk, in patients with ALK-rearranged NSCLC relative to those without ALK rearrangement. Prospective studies are warranted to evaluate thromboprophylaxis in ALK-positive NSCLC.PMID:37014824 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad061

Atrial fibrillation, cancer and anticancer drugs
Arch Cardiovasc Dis. 2023 Mar 11:S1875-2136(23)00058-X. doi: 10.1016/j.acvd.2023.02.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTActive cancer is associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), which varies depending on the pre-existing substrate (particularly in older patients), the cancer type and stage, and the anticancer therapeutics being taken. To date, studies have not been able to identify the individual contribution of each factor. During anticancer drug therapy, AF may occur with a frequency of ≈ 15-20% according to several factors, including the patient's baseline cardiovascular toxicity risk and the AF-d...

Healthcare systems data in the context of clinical trials - A comparison of cardiovascular data from a clinical trial dataset with routinely collected data
CONCLUSION: Concordance between datasets was lower than anticipated and the HSD used could not straightforwardly replace current trial practices, nor directly identify protocol-defined CVS events. Further work is required to improve the quality of HSD and consider event definitions when designing clinical trials incorporating HSD.PMID:36933612 | DOI:10.1016/j.cct.2023.107162

Risk of venous thromboembolism among women receiving ospemifene: a comparative observational study
Conclusion: This real-world safety analysis found no increase in risk of VTE or other adverse events with use of ospemifene in postmenopausal women.PMID:36420373 | PMC:PMC9677319 | DOI:10.1177/20420986221135931

Neurovascular Manifestations of Iron-Deficient Anemia: Narrative Review and Practical Reflections through a Teaching Case
Conclusions: IDA is a common but treatable condition that, independently or synergically, may increase the risk of thrombotic events. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach has not yet been defined, and each case should be individually addressed in a pragmatic clinical road map.PMID:36294407 | DOI:10.3390/jcm11206088

Risk for Arterial Thromboembolic Events (ATEs) in Patients with Advanced Urinary Tract Cancer (aUTC) Treated with First-Line Chemotherapy: Single-Center, Observational Study
Curr Oncol. 2022 Aug 24;29(9):6077-6090. doi: 10.3390/curroncol29090478.ABSTRACTArterial thromboembolism has been associated with cancer or its treatment. Unlike venous thromboembolism, the incidence and risk factors have not been extensively studied. Here, we investigated the incidence of arterial thromboembolic events (ATEs) in an institutional series of advanced urinary tract cancer (aUTC) treated with cytotoxic chemotherapy. The ATE definition included peripheral arterial embolism/thrombosis, ischemic stroke and coronary events. A total of 354 aUTC patients were analyzed. Most patients (95.2%) received platinum-based c...
