Detection and treatment of atherosclerosis using nanoparticles
Atherosclerosis is the key pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, which is a silent killer and a leading cause of death in the United States. Atherosclerosis starts with the adhesion of inflammatory monocytes on the activated endothelial cells in response to inflammatory stimuli. These monocytes can further migrate into the intimal layer of the blood vessel where they differentiate into macrophages, which take up oxidized low‐density lipoproteins and release inflammatory factors to amplify the local inflammatory response. After accumulation of cholesterol, the lipid‐laden macrophages are transformed into foam cells, t...

Current knowledge on the neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties of citicoline in acute ischemic stroke
Mikhail Yu Martynov, Eugeny I Gusev Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Medical Genetics, Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow, Russia Abstract: Ischemic stroke is one of the leading causes of long-lasting disability and death. Two main strategies have been proposed for the treatment of ischemic stroke: restoration of blood flow by thrombolysis or mechanical thrombus extraction during the first few hours of ischemic stroke, which is one of the most effective treatments and leads to a better functional and clinical outcome. The other direction of treatment, which is potentially applicable to most of th...
