Subsequent cardiac surgery after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: Indications and outcomes
ConclusionsSubsequent open-cardiac surgery after TAVI is rare, but may urgently become necessary due to TAVI related complications or progressing other cardiac pathologies. Despite a substantial early attrition rate clinical outcome is acceptable and a relevant number of these high-risk patients can be discharged even after emergency conversions. The option of subsequent surgical conversion remains.

Perioperative and long ‐term outcomes of Ross versus mechanical aortic valve replacement
ConclusionsIn this mid-term propensity score-matched analysis, the Ross procedure offers similar perioperative outcomes, freedom from reintervention or valve dysfunction as well as overall survival compared to traditional mAVR but without the morbidity associated with long-term anticoagulation. At specialized centers with sufficient expertize, the Ross procedure should be strongly considered in select patients requiring aortic valve replacement.

Six ‐month outcomes in postapproval HeartMate3 patients: A single‐center US experience
ConclusionIn this single-center study, the real-world 6-month survival in the postapproval group was comparable to the trial results. Further studies are needed to monitor long-term outcomes.

One ‐year outcome after transcatheter aortic valve replacement for aortic regurgitation: A single‐center study
ConclusionsIn high-risk patients undergoing transapical TAVR for AR, the use of the J-Valve is safe, and effective TAVR should be considered as a reasonable option for high-risk patients with pure AR.

Outflow cannula position for left ventricular assist device: A propensity score ‐matched study
ConclusionNo observed difference in mortality when adjusting for competing risk of heart transplantation. There was also no difference in stroke, pump thrombosis, driveline infection. Larger studies are required to confirm these findings. These preliminary data support the use of left-sided anastomoses to facilitate subsequent re-entry during heart transplantation.

Novel use of the Sentinel cerebral protection device during thrombosed septal occluder explant and Atriclip appendage closure
ConclusionsWe demonstrate the first successful use of an SCPD during surgical excision of a mal-deployed occluder. With its ease of use and safety, SCPD may have utility in surgeries with high cardio-embolic risk.

Impact of diverse aortic pathologies on outcomes after transapical transcatheter aortic valve replacement
ConclusionIndependent of underlying AP, the TA ‐TAVR is a safe method and shows very promising early and midterm outcomes in patients with various AP.

Anticoagulation management of postoperative atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery: A systematic review
ConclusionThere is wide practice variation in the uptake, timing of initiation, duration, and choice of OAC for POAF following cardiac surgery. The evidence is largely retrospective and insufficient to assess the efficacy of different OAC strategies. Further studies are warranted to guide clinical practice.

Improved outcomes in CABG patients with atrial fibrillation associated with surgical left atrial appendage exclusion
ConclusionsConcomitant LAA exclusion via an epicardial closure device is associated with reduced CABG mortality, thromboembolic events, and readmissions in patients with pre ‐existing atrial fibrillation.

Toward stroke ‐free coronary surgery: The role of the anaortic off‐pump bypass technique
AbstractSurgical coronary revascularization remains the preferred strategy in a significant portion of patients with coronary artery disease due to superior long ‐term outcomes. However, there is a significant risk of perioperative neurologic injury that has influenced guideline recommendations. These complications occur in 1%–5% of patients, ranging from overt neurologic deficits with permanent disability, to subtle cerebral defects noted on neuroimagin g that may result in slow cognitive and functional decline. The primary mechanism by which these events occur is thromboembolism from manipulation of the ascending aor...

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the SAPIEN 3 valve versus surgical aortic valve replacement using the rapid deployment INTUITY valve: Midterm outcomes
ConclusionRD ‐SAVR was superior to TA‐/TF‐S3 in the PVL and PPI rates. We observed similar early outcomes and valve hemodynamics. The endocarditis was higher in the TAVR group.
