DVT Prevention in Stroke
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThe purpose of this review is to discuss the prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in stroke patients. We discuss use of oral anticoagulation and other interventions for the prevention of VTE. A new class of medications, non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs), have been successfully trialed for the prevention of VTE. We review the data and guidance statements for VTE prevention.Recent FindingsWarfarin and vitamin K antagonist drugs have been the mainstay of VTE prevention for decades. More recently, NOACs have become available for both stroke and systemic embolism prevention in n...

Thrombolytic utilization for ischemic stroke in US hospitals with neurology residency program
Conclusions: Acute stroke care in NR hospitals is associated with an increased thrombolytic utilization. The disparities between the thrombolysis rate in NR and that in OT and NT hospitals are greater among elderly patients.

Effect of the neutral CLOTS 1 trial on the use of graduated compression stockings in the Efficacy of Nitric Oxide Stroke (ENOS) trial
Conclusions GCS use declined dramatically following the reporting of the CLOTS-1 trial. The results support the notion that a neutral trial of a device can influence clinical practice rapidly, which is important with a widely used and moderately expensive (time and finance) intervention.

Thrombolytic Utilization in Ischemic Stroke Is Significantly Higher in US Hospitals with Neurology Residency Program (S02.006)
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke care at NR hospitals is associated with an increased thrombolytic utilization rate. The increased tPA utilization at NR between 2002-2006 may be related to the rapid increase in Primary Stroke Centers across the country.Disclosure: Dr. Moradiya has nothing to disclose.
