Mechanical thrombectomy performed in thrombosed fusiform aneurysm after surgery for craniopharyngioma in adult: Case report
Biomed Pap Med Fac Univ Palacky Olomouc Czech Repub. 2021 Mar 31. doi: 10.5507/bp.2021.018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Fusiform dilatation of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is reported as a possible complication of craniopharyngioma resection in childhood. Here, the authors describe such a complication in an adult patient who presented with acute symptomatic thrombosis 7 months after surgery.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 45-year-old woman presented with left hemispheric stroke due to a thrombotic supraclinoid occlusion of the terminal ICA (so called "T" occlusion). Successful revascularisation was achieved w...

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Posterior Circulation Stroke
Conclusions: Up to date, no data about PCIS and IVT are available from RTCs. Based on limited results from retrospective clinical studies and case series, IVT is safer for use in PCIS than in ACIS. Patients with brainstem ischemia, vertebral artery occlusion, and absence of basilar or posterior cerebral artery occlusion could be considered for treatment with IVT even in borderline cases. Time to IVT in PCIS seems to be a less crucial factor than in ACIS. IVT for PCIS may be beneficial even after 4.5 h from symptom onset. Oxidative Modified Fibrinogen in Cardiovascular Diseases
ConclusionsThe results show that the degree of impairment of fibrinogen functions in the cardiovascular diseases is related to the level of oxidative stress. Characterization of oxidative fibrinogen modification and its precise meaning to the function of fibrinogen in hemostasis appears to be extremely helpful to better understanding of thrombotic/bleeding complications linked with various cardiovascular diseases.AcknowledgementsThis work was supported by the Ministry of Health, Czech Republic, no. 00023736, by the Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic no. The 2017 hormone therapy position statement of The North American Menopause Society
The 2017 Hormone Therapy Position Statement of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) updates the 2012 Hormone Therapy Position Statement of The North American Menopause Society and identifies future research needs. An Advisory Panel of clinicians and researchers expert in the field of women's health and menopause was recruited by NAMS to review the 2012 Position Statement, evaluate new literature, assess the evidence, and reach consensus on recommendations, using the level of evidence to identify the strength of recommendations and the quality of the evidence. The Panel's recommendations were reviewed and approved by...

Safety of early discharge in low risk patients after acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention. Open label, randomized trial.
CONCLUSION: This study confirms that early discharge within 48-72 h in selected low risk patients after STEMI treated with successful primary PCI is feasible and safe, with outcomes comparable to the later discharge. This strategy applies to more than a quarter of all STEMI patients. PMID: 30181666 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Vulnerable atherosclerotic plaque - review of current concepts and advanced imaging.
Authors: Spacek M, Zemanek D, Hutyra M, Sluka M, Taborsky M Abstract Atherosclerosis is the most common cause of both carotid and coronary steno-occlusive disease. Rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque may lead to the formation of an overlying thrombosis resulting in complete arterial occlusion or downstream embolism. Clinically, this may manifest as a stroke or acute myocardial infarction, the overall leading causes of mortality and disability in developed countries. In this article, we summarize current concepts of the development of vulnerable plaque and provide an overview of commonly used imaging methods that m...
