Family Physician Prescribing Practices and Perspectives on Shared Decision-Making Regarding the Use of Oral Anticoagulants for Stroke Prevention in Patients 75  Years or Older With Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSION: Family physicians strongly consider patient risks and utilize risk-assessment tools when initiating OAC in older adults with AF. Despite all physicians reporting the use of shared decision-making and that their patients were educated on the indications for OAC, confidence in initiating treatment was variable. Further exploration into factors impacting physician confidence is needed.PMID:36960556 | DOI:10.1177/21501319231164060

The effectiveness of atrial fibrillation special clinic on oral anticoagulant use for high risk atrial fibrillation patients managed in the community
CONCLUSION: AFSC is effective in enhancing OAC use and maintaining optimal modifiable CVD risk factor control among high risk AF patients managed in primary care setting, and therefore may reduce AF-associated morbidity and mortality in the long run.PMID:36788489 | PMC:PMC9926793 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02004-w

Psychological and social health outcomes of physical activity around menopause: A scoping review of research
Menopause is generally defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation and is usually categorized into premenopausal, perimenopausal and postmenopausal stages, defined on the basis of endocrine status and regularity of menstrual bleeding pattern [1]. Physiological research has shown that endocrine changes related to menopause involve a higher risk of several forms of cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, stroke and atherosclerosis, as well as osteoporosis [2].

Two-year outcomes of UK patients newly diagnosed with atrial fibrillation: findings from the prospective observational cohort study GARFIELD-AF
CONCLUSION: The data support a benefit of anticoagulation in reducing stroke and death, without an increased risk of a major bleed in patients with new-onset AF. Anticoagulation treatment in patients at high risk of stroke who are not receiving anticoagulation may further improve outcomes.PMID:35577587 | DOI:10.3399/BJGP.2021.0548

Variation in bleeding risk estimates among online calculators: Cross-sectional study of apps used by and for patients with atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSION: Inconsistencies and a lack of precision were observed in annual risk estimates and risk stratification produced by Web and mobile bleeding risk calculators for patients with atrial fibrillation. Clinicians should refer to annual bleeding risks observed in major randomized controlled trials to inform risk estimates communicated to patients.PMID:35418403 | DOI:10.46747/cfp.6804e127
