Use of surgical laser during excisional biopsy of pyogenic granuloma in a bedridden patient: a case report
Pyogenic granuloma is described as a benign nodular growth of the oral cavity, usually related to local irritation or trauma. It can be painless and commonly has superficial bleeding due to the large vascularization of the lesion. The use of a surgical laser in its excision may have some advantages, such as a low amount of intrasurgical blood and better tissue healing. A 74-year-old female patient bedridden for 6 years due to sequelae of hemorrhagic stroke presented with a tumor lesion on the left side of the tongue, with an irregular surface, pink color, and pedicled base, measuring approximately 2 cm and bleeding spontaneously.

Clinical Post-operative Bleeding During Minor Oral Surgical Procedure and In Vitro Platelet Aggregation in Patients on Aspirin Therapy: Are they Coherent?
ConclusionMajority of the minor oral surgical procedures can be carried out safely without discontinuing aspirin in patients on low-dose long-term therapy. This is possible because despite significant platelet aggregation evident in laboratory evaluation there is lack of its clinical corroboration owing to aspirin resistance.Clinical Trial RegistrationCTRI/2018/02/012055.

Safety and effectiveness of endovascular embolization or stent ‐graft reconstruction for treatment of acute carotid blowout syndrome in patients with head and neck cancer: Case series and systematic review of observational studies
ConclusionBoth embolization and stent grafts are safe therapeutic options for acute carotid blowout syndrome. Embolization for ICA/CCA carotid blowout syndrome was associated with higher risks of procedural stroke and lower recurrent bleeding compared to stent grafts.

Interventional radiology in the head and neck region.
Authors: Mayer C, Hattingen E, Schild H, Bootz F, Schröck A Abstract In interventional neuroradiology, endovascular embolization represents an important and helpful tool in the treatment of multiple head and neck diseases. These interventional procedures may be performed with curative intent, to reduce the surgical risk within a multimodal treatment concept, or to improve or at least maintain a good quality of life within a palliative therapy concept. In addition to a good understanding of disease pathology, knowledge of vascular anatomy, including collateral vessels and dangerous extracranial-intracranial anast...

Pre-treatment clinical assessment in head and neck cancer: United Kingdom National Multidisciplinary Guidelines.
Authors: Robson A, Sturman J, Williamson P, Conboy P, Penney S, Wood H Abstract This is the official guideline endorsed by the specialty associations involved in the care of head and neck cancer patients in the UK. This paper provides recommendations on the pre-treatment clinical assessment of patients presenting with head and neck cancer. Recommendations • Comorbidity data should be collected as it is important in the analysis of survival, quality of life and functional outcomes after treatment as well as for comparing results of different treatment regimens and different centres. (R) • Patients with hypertens...

Dabigatran: A new oral anticoagulant. Guidelines to follow in oral surgery procedures. A systematic review of the literature.
Conclusions: Currently, there is no consensus on the procedure to be followed in patients taking dabigatran. However, all authors agree to treat each case individually in accordance to the risk of embolism, postoperative bleeding and renal function. Also, it is necessary to perform minimally invasive interventions, and take the appropriate local anti-hemolytic measures. PMID: 27694780 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Use of the radial forearm artery for secondary embolization of an extensive life-threatening arteriovenous malformation of the mid-face and anterior skull base – A case report
Conclusion: In extensive vascular malformations of the head and neck, complete surgical removal is often impossible and associated with high risk of complications and mortality. Endovascular embolization is limited by the location of the AVM and can potentially cause stroke, ischaemia, necrosis, bleeding, blindness and adverse haemodynamic changes.
