Direct current cardioversion practices following percutaneous left atrial appendage closure
DiscussionThere is a widely varied practice pattern of TEE, CCTA, and OAC use with DCCV after LAAC, with a 6% rate of LAT/DRT. LAA imaging before DCCV appears prudent in all cases, especially within 1 year of LAAC, to assess for device position, PDL, and LAT/DRT.

Same ‐day discharge for left atrial appendage occlusion procedure: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsThis meta-analysis of seven observational studies showed no significant difference in patient safety outcomes and post-discharge complications between same-day discharge versus HA. These findings provide a solid basis to perform a randomized control trial to eliminate any potential confounders.

Gender ‐specific outcomes after percutaneous left atrial appendage closure: A nationwide readmission database analysis
ConclusionWomen had higher peri-procedural complications and were at higher risk of readmissions at 30 days and 6 months. However, there was no difference in mortality during the index hospitalization. Further studies are necessary to determine causality.

Outcome and safety of intracardiac echocardiography guided left atrial appendage closure within zero ‐fluoroscopy atrial fibrillation ablation procedures
ConclusionThe combination of catheter ablation and LAAC under ICE guidance was safe and effective in AF patients with high stroke risk. ICE with our novel protocol was technically feasible for comprehensive and systematic assessment of device implantation. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Atrial fibrillation incidence, prevalence, predictors, and adverse outcomes in acute coronary syndromes: A pooled analysis of data from 8 million patients
ConclusionOne in nine patients with ACS has AF, with a high proportion of newly diagnosed AF. AF, in particular newly diagnosed AF, is associated with poor short-term and long-term outcomes in patients with ACS.

Is There a Mortality Benefit of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation?
AbstractCatheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation (AF) has dramatically increased in frequency in recent years.1 While early randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of rhythm control for AF using anti-arrhythmic drugs did not show a mortality benefit compared to rate control strategies,2, 3 more recent trials that included CA or medical therapy (MT) for rhythm control have challenged this notion by showing improved clinical outcomes including mortality with rhythm control.4, 5 The largest RCT of AF ablation to date, the Catheter Ablation versus Antiarrhythmic Drug Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation (CABANA) trial, compared CA t...

Value of Detecting Peri ‐Device Leak and Incomplete Endothelialization by Cardiac CT Angiography in Atrial Fibrillation Patients Post Watchman LAAC Combined with Radiofrequency Ablation
CONCLUSIONSCCTA is feasible to evaluate PDL and device endothelialization after LAAC. The maximum diameter of LAA orifice derived from CT can independently predict the occurrence of post-LAAC PDL.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Interventional occlusion of left atrial appendage in patients with atrial fibrillation. Gender ‐related outcomes in the German LAARGE Registry
ConclusionLAARGE documented in this elderly patient population undergoing LAAO implantation a higher rate of severe periprocedural complications in females. At 1-year follow-up similar efficacy and safety outcomes were observed for both genders. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

The impact of basic atrial rhythm during catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation on clinical outcomes: Lessons from the German Ablation Registry
ConclusionBasic atrial rhythm at the time of AF ablation did not affect long ‐term rhythm outcome. For patients suffering from persistent AF a more favorable acute and long‐term safety profile was observed when ablated in SR.This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Associations of anemia with stroke, bleeding, and mortality in atrial fibrillation: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionAnemia is a frequently observed comorbidity in patients with AF, and is associated with an increased risk of all ‐cause, cardiovascular and noncardiovascular mortality, stroke/systemic thromboembolism, and major and gastrointestinal bleeding. Future studies are required to explore the causes of anemia in AF, and whether investigation and treatment may be clinically beneficial in affected individuals.
