Risk of Stroke With Various Types of Menopausal Hormone Therapies Brief Report
Conclusions—In a national setting, we found an increased risk of stroke, based on ischemic stroke, with oral hormone therapies that was comparable to findings from randomized studies. We found no risk of stroke with transdermal application and a reduced risk with vaginal estrogen.

Impact of stroke-associated infection on long-term survival: a cohort study
Conclusions SAIs have long-lasting effects on patient survival. This serves to emphasise the importance of immediate access to organised stroke unit care for people with acute stroke, with active physiological monitoring and protocols for early detection and treatment of SAIs.

Effects of Minocycline Plus Tissue Plasminogen Activator Combination Therapy After Focal Embolic Stroke in Type 1 Diabetic Rats Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Combination therapy with minocycline plus tPA may be beneficial in ameliorating inflammation and reducing infarction, brain swelling, and hemorrhage after ischemic stroke with diabetes mellitus/hyperglycemia.

Long-Term Costs of Stroke Using 10-Year Longitudinal Data From the North East Melbourne Stroke Incidence Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Costs to 10 years after stroke have not previously been reported. Our findings demonstrate the importance of estimating resource use over longer periods for forecasting lifetime estimates.

Intraluminal Thrombus, Intraplaque Hemorrhage, Plaque Thickness, and Current Smoking Optimally Predict Carotid Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— After excluding patients with noncarotid plaque stroke sources, optimal discrimination of carotid-source stroke was obtained with intraluminal thrombus, IPH, plaque thickness, and smoking history but not ulceration and stenosis.

Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Risk of Incident Stroke in Community-Living Adults Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Higher FGF23 concentrations were associated with higher risk of cardioembolic but not with other stroke subtypes in community-dwelling adults. Additional studies should delineate reasons for these findings.

Adherence to a Mediterranean Diet and Prediction of Incident Stroke Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— High adherence to MeD seems to be associated with a lower risk of incident IS independent of potential confounders. Adherence to MeD is not related to the risk of incident hemorrhagic stroke.

Effect of Seasonal and Monthly Variation in Weather and Air Pollution Factors on Stroke Incidence in Seoul, Korea Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— We demonstrated distinct patterns of seasonal and monthly variation in the incidence of stroke and its subtypes through consideration of the meteorologic and air pollution parameters. We therefore expect that these findings may enhance our understanding of the relationships between stroke and weather and pollutants.

Copeptin: Limited Usefulness in Early Stroke Differentiation?
Conclusion. In this cohort of patients copeptin-levels within 4.5 hours of symptom onset were higher in patients with IS compared to TIA but the broad range of values in stroke-mimics limits diagnostic accuracy. This trial is registered with UTN: U1111-1119-7602. PMID: 26167332 [PubMed]

Nonpsychotic Mental Disorders in Teenage Males and Risk of Early Stroke: A Population-Based Study Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Our findings suggest that fitness may modify associations between nonpsychotic disorders and stroke. It remains to be clarified whether interventions designed to improve fitness in mentally ill youth can influence future risk of early stroke.

Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction and Risk of Stroke and Cardiac Events in Heart Failure: Data From the Warfarin Versus Aspirin in Reduced Ejection Fraction Trial Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— In patients with systolic HF and sinus rhythm, LVEF is inversely associated with death and its components, whereas an association with stroke exists for very low LVEF values. An interaction with warfarin treatment on stroke risk may exist. Clinical Trial Registration— URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00041938.
