Cold atmospheric plasma mediated cell membrane permeation and gene delivery-empirical interventions and pertinence
Adv Colloid Interface Sci. 2023 Aug 28;320:102989. doi: 10.1016/j.cis.2023.102989. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDelivery of genetic material to cells is an integral tool to analyze and reveal the genetic interventions in normal cellular processes and differentiation, disease development and for gene therapy. It has profound applications in pharmaceutical, agricultural, environmental and biotechnological sectors. The major methods relied for gene delivery or transfection requires either viral vectors or xenogenic carrier molecules, which renders probabilistic carcinogenic, immunogenic and toxic effects. A newly evolved phy...

Thiol-epoxy 'click' chemistry: a focus on molecular attributes in the context of polymer chemistry
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Aug 29. doi: 10.1039/d3cc02555a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBase-catalyzed ring-opening reaction of epoxides with the thiol nucleophiles is useful in the preparation and post-polymerization modification of synthetic polymers. Due to its many beneficial characteristics, this process is referred to as the thiol-epoxy 'click' reaction. In this article, our aim is to discuss the fundamental attributes of this process by tracing our own steps in the field. We initially address the aspects of efficiency, regio-selectivity, stoichiometry, and reaction conditions with the help of linear, hyperbranched, ...

TRIM65 Suppresses oxLDL-induced Endothelial Inflammation by Interaction with VCAM-1 in Atherogenesis
CONCLUSION: Our studies indicate that TRIM65 attenuates the endothelial inflammatory response by targeting VCAM-1 for ubiquitination and provides a potential therapeutic target for the inhibition of endothelial inflammation in AS.PMID:37608612 | DOI:10.2174/0929867331666230822152350

Environment-Responsive Peptide Dimers Bind and Stabilize Double-Stranded RNA
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 21:e202308028. doi: 10.1002/anie.202308028. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDouble-stranded RNAs (dsRNA) possess immense potential for biomedical applications. However, their therapeutic utility is limited by low stability and poor cellular uptake. Different strategies have been explored to enhance the stability of dsRNA, including the incorporation of modified nucleotides, and the use of diverse carrier systems. Nevertheless, these have not resulted in a broadly applicable approach thereby preventing the wide-spread application of dsRNA for therapeutic purposes. Herein, we report the design ...

Pyrrolidinedione-thiazolidinone hybrid molecules with potent cytotoxic effect in squamous cell carcinoma SCC-15 cells
This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic effect of three derivatives 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)- and 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-[5-[2-chloro-3-(4-nitrophenyl)prop-2-enylidene]-4-oxo-2-thioxothiazolidine-3-yl]pyrrolidine-2,5-diones (Les-6287, Les-6294, and Les-6328, respectively), their effect on the production of the reactive oxygen species (ROS), apoptosis induction, and expression of genes - PPARĪ³, AHR, and NRFL2 - whose products are important in metabolism in human tongue squamous cell carcinoma cells of SCC-15 line. The results of resazurin reduction and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release assays proved th...

Clinicopathological Characteristics, Prognosis, and Correlated Tumor Cell Function of Tropomodulin-3 in Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: Our study shows that TMOD3 may be associated with the progression of PAAD cells, and that it is an independent risk factor for poor pathological features and prognosis of PAAD. It may be helpful as a prognostic indicator of clinical outcomes in PAAD patients.PMID:37563820 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230810142646
