Factors associated with non-adherence to medications in systemic lupus erythematosus: Results from a Swedish survey
CONCLUSIONS: Beliefs about medications were a major determinant of medication non-adherence. Patient education may help alleviate the negative impact of misinformation/unawareness on adherence.PMID:38545763 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241242692 (Source: Lupus)

Enhanced GATA4 expression in senescent systemic lupus erythematosus monocytes promotes high levels of IFN α production
Enhanced interferon α (IFNα) production has been implicated in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We previously reported IFNα production by monocytes upon activation of the stimulator of IFN genes (STING) pathway was enhanced in patients with SLE. We investigated the mechanism of enhanced IFNα production in SLE monocytes. Monocytes enriched from the peripheral blood of SLE patients and healthy controls (HC) were stimulated with 2′3′-cyclic GAMP (2′3′-cGAMP), a ligand of STING. IFNα positive/negative cells were FACS-sorted for RNA-sequencing analysis. Gene expression in untreated and 2′3...

Case report: Systemic lupus erythematosus combined with myocardial hypertrophy
CONCLUSION: Myocardial hypertrophy may be an important sign of active and prognostic assessment in SLE diagnosis and management. Similarly, when encountering cases of myocardial hypertrophy, the possibility of autoimmune disease should be considered in addition to common causes.PMID:38533913 | DOI:10.1002/iid3.1214 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Comparison of systemic lupus international collaborating clinics 2012 classification criteria and European league against rheumatism/American college of rheumatology 2019 classification criteria for early detection of childhood onset systemic lupus erythematosus (multi-center study)
CONCLUSION: In this cohort among the Saudi population with childhood-onset SLE, the new EULAR/ACR 2019 criteria efficiently enable early detection of SLE, although a more frequent rate of false positives was observed with them. Escalating the total score from ≥ 10 to ≥ 13 in the cSLE population improved the specificity close to that of SLICC 2012. Further prospective studies in pediatrics need to be done for the validation of a cut- off score of ≥ 13 in cSLE rather than the traditional score of ≥ 10 in aSLE.PMID:38533912 | DOI:10.1177/09612033241240830 (Source: Lupus)

A Multilayered Post –Genome‐Wide Association Study Analysis Pipeline Defines Functional Variants and Target Genes for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
ConclusionWe demonstrate and validate post-GWAS strategies for using multidimensional data to prioritize likely causal variants with cognate gene targets underlying SLE pathogenesis. Our results provide a catalog of significantly SLE-associated SNPs and loci, target genes, and likely biochemical mechanisms to guide experimental characterization. Systemic lupus erythematosus associated with erythema multiforme: A rare case report of Rowell's syndrome
Key Clinical MessageAlthough it is very uncommon, SLE may initially present with recurrent episodes of EM-like rash. Despite the various possibilities underlying their association, prompt identification, and treatment of SLE in patients presenting with EM is important to prevent death or serious organ damage.AbstractRowell's syndrome (RS) is an uncommon presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with erythema multiforme (EM)-like lesions associated with specific serological changes, including positive rheumatoid factor (RF), speckled antinuclear antibody (ANA), positive rheumatoid factor, or anti-La antibodies in t...

Case report: Paralytic ileus resulted from nirmatrelvir/ritonavir-tacrolimus drug-drug interaction in a systemic lupus erythematosus patient with COVID-19
We present a case of paralytic ileus resulting from tacrolimus toxicity mediated by the use of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A 37-year-old female SLE patient was prescribed nirmatrelvir/ritonavir without discontinuing tacrolimus. She presented to the emergency room with symptoms of paralytic ileus including persistent abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, which were verified to be associated with tacrolimus toxicity. The blood concentration of tacrolimus was measured >30 ng/mL. Urgent medical intervention was initiated, while tacrolimus was withheld. The residual concentra...

Evaluation of Type 2 SLE symptoms in patients with a range of lupus nephritis activity
ConclusionsWhile Type 2 SLE symptoms are common in SLE, our findings suggest that patients with active nephritis experience significant Type 2 SLE symptoms that may be ameliorated as nephritis improves. We also observed that non-nephritis patients had a similar burden of Type 2 SLE symptoms as patients with active nephritis, despite having on average lower Type 1 SLE activity. Therefore, the etiology of Type 2 SLE symptoms is likely multifactorial and may be driven by inflammatory and non-inflammatory biopsychosocial factors.Key Points• Patients with active nephritis experienced significant Type 2 symptoms that may be am...

Non-Lupus Full House Nephropathy
CONCLUSIONS: Our data support that SLE and non-lupus full house nephropathy are distinct clinical entities, with comparable outcomes. A small subset of patients develops SLE during follow-up. Non-lupus full house nephropathy is addressed by many different names in the literature. The identification of three pathogenetic categories provides further clues for the management of the disease.PMID:38527995 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000438 (Source: Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : CJASN)

Anti-SSA Ro52 and anti-Ro60 autoantibodies: association with clinical phenotypes
CONCLUSIONS: Anti-Ro52+ antibody alone is frequently found in patients with non-rheumatic diseases. In addition, anti-Ro52+ antibody is also prevalent in patients with CTD and associated with clinical phenotypes that are different from anti-Ro60+ antibody.PMID:38530658 | DOI:10.55563/clinexprheumatol/puxml7 (Source: Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology)
