An uncommon cause of severe hypercalcemia: Vitamin D supplementation in Sarcoidosis.
A 37 year old male presented to the hospital with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting of 2 days duration. Two months ago, he had a similar presentation and an elevated serum calcium level of 10.9 mg/dl. His hypercalcemia symptoms resolved after medical management, and he left the hospital against medical advice, refusing further workup for hypercalcemia. He went to a homeopathy provider and his blood work showed a low vitamin D level of 8 ng/ml. He was prescribed 50,000 units of weekly vitamin D 25 (OH) therapy for four weeks duration.

While most of the literature deals with the reasons doctors had to shift to homeopathy, the patients' views became the focus of increasing scholarly attention along the past 20 years. In this article I present and discuss the current knowledge about the socio-demographic characteristics and medical complaints of patients who sought homeopathic care in the early 19th century in both private and institutional settings.
