Perinatal Cannabis Use and Cannabis Use during Breastfeeding: the Role of Health Care Workers
Conclusion HCW discussions about cannabis use during pregnancy or breastfeeding are not universally reported. This study highlights the need for further encouragement of universal HCW discussions of cannabis use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, strengthening of messaging around cannabis use during these periods, and improved delivery of reliable cannabis-related health information to this population. Passive transfer of alloantibodies through breast milk as a mediator of hemolytic anemia
CONCLUSION: There is a paucity of data regarding the lifespan of passively acquired RBC antibodies in neonatal circulation, with significant variation noted between passively acquired IgG based on studies utilizing intravenous immunoglobulin compared to studies of maternally-acquired antiviral IgG antibodies. While our data do not definitively implicate passive transfer of alloantibodies in breast milk as a mediator of HDFN, they do illustrate the need for further investigation into the mechanisms and kinetics of passively acquired antibodies in neonatal circulation.PMID:37706556 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17548

Time to recovery and its predictors among under five children in outpatient therapeutic feeding programme in Borena zone, Southern Ethiopia: a retrospective cohort study
Conclusions The findings showed that a time to recovery was within an acceptable range. Incidence of recovery is enhanced with early case detection, proper management, nearby service, new admissions, provision of adequate Plumpy’Nut and enabling mothers to screen their own children for acute malnutrition. However, we did not observe a statistically significant association among breastfeeding status, type of health facility, wasting type, vaccination and routine medications. Service providers should improve adherence to treatment protocols, defaulter tracing, community outreach and timely case identification.

Determination of cefuroxime in breast milk by LC-MS/MS using SALLME technique
In this study, we aimed to develop the LC-MS/MS method using salt-assisted liquid-liquid micro-extraction (SALLME) for the determination of cefuroxime in breast milk. The method was validated according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidelines. Cefuroxime and the internal standard cefixime were extracted from plasma by a SALLME technique. The results obtained from the entire validation study are at an acceptable level according to the EMA criteria. The calibration curve of cefuroxime was between 25 and 1000 ng/ml, with correlation coefficients of >0.99. The lower limit of quantitation was 25 ng/ml for cefuroxime...

Outcomes and factors associated with tolerance in infants with non-IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy with gastrointestinal manifestations
CONCLUSIONS: In infants with non-IgE-mediated CMPA with gastrointestinal manifestations, the use of cow's milk-based formula, a history of other food allergies, and hematochezia and diarrhea upon initial presentation were associated factors for the later achievement of tolerance.PMID:37696495 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.08.003

Risk factors predisposing children to food allergies
CONCLUSION: The most important aspect of this study was that it separately identified prenatal, neonatal, and postnatal risk factors for IgE- and non-IgE-mediated food allergies.PMID:37695233 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i5.937
