Genomics, Transcriptomics, and Epigenetics of Sporadic Pituitary Tumors
Arch Med Res. 2023 Nov 17:102915. doi: 10.1016/j.arcmed.2023.102915. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPituitary tumors (PT) are highly heterogeneous neoplasms, comprising functioning and nonfunctioning lesions. Functioning PT include prolactinomas, causing amenorrhea-galactorrhea in women and sexual dysfunction in men; GH-secreting adenomas causing acromegaly-gigantism; ACTH-secreting corticotrophinomas causing Cushing disease (CD); and the rare TSH-secreting thyrotrophinomas that result in central hyperthyroidism. Nonfunctioning PT do not result in a hormonal hypersecretion syndrome and most of them are of gonadotrope differ...

Assessment of osteoprotegerin and RANKL levels and several cardiovascular risk scoring systems in acromegaly
CONCLUSION: OPG and RANKL may serve as potential markers for assessment of cardiovascular calcification and prediction of the cardiovascular risk status in acromegalic patients.PMID:37981618 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-023-00509-8 (Source: Hormones)

Osteosarcopenia in acromegaly: reduced muscle quality and increased vertebral fat deposition
ConclusionAcromegalic patients had reduced SMQ and pelvic BMD, but greater vertebral MRI-PDFF. Although lean tissue increases in AA, this does not affect SMQ. Therefore, increased vertebral MRI-PDFF in controlled acromegalic patients may be due to ectopic adiposity. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

The multi-biomarker acro-TIME score predicts fg-SRLs response: preliminary results of a retrospective acromegaly cohort
CONCLUSION: Although our predictive model should be validated in prospective studies, our data suggest that this nomogram may represent an easy-to-use tool, for early predicting the fg-SRLs outcome.PMID:37975821 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad673 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Growth Hormone, Atherosclerosis and Peripheral Arterial Disease: Exploring the Spectrum from Acromegaly to Growth Hormone Deficiency
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2023 Nov 13. doi: 10.2174/0115701611269162231106042956. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGrowth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) are increasingly recognised for their role in cardiovascular (CV) physiology. The GH-IGF-1 axis plays an essential role in the development of the CV system as well as in the complex molecular network that regulates cardiac and endothelial structure and function. A considerable correlation between GH levels and CV mortality exists even among individuals in the general population without a notable deviation in the GHIGF- 1 axis functioning. In addition, over t...
