“ The Danger model: are we cutting off too small a slice of the pie? ”
Dr. Matzinger will give IIG seminar on May 1st 2024, she studies mechanisms of T-cell tolerance and memory. She proposed the Danger model of immunity, which suggests that the immune system is far less concerned with things that are foreign than with those that do damage. Her work has major implications for autoimmunity, cancer immunotherapy, and vaccine design.Air date: 5/1/2024 4:00:00 PM (Source: Videocast - All Events)

Prioritizing Discovery and Advancements in Arrhythmia Therapies
The major goals for this working group would be to provide new directions and strategies for anti-arrhythmia research and therapy by:identifying basic science findings that are ready for translation into clinical research;evaluating the research gaps and barriers in order to expedite understanding and targeting of anti-arrhythmia drug and procedural device-based therapies;recognizing clinical settings in which control of long-term structural modulators and arrhythmia triggers might be particularly effective;pinpointing approaches to developing effective management of arrhythmia, reduce irreversible cardiac remodeling, and ...

Jenny Pan-Yun Ting is a Taiwanese-American immunologist and microbiologist at University of North Carolina. She is a highly cited researcher who studies the role of NLR genes in regulating inflammation and how nanoparticles and microparticles can be used as vaccine adjuvants. In memory of Kuan-Teh Jeang, the lecture will discuss the roles of multiple innate immune receptors in viral infection in mouse models and patients. The seminar will also describe the unexpected intrinsic roles of these receptors in adaptive T and B lymphocytes. The latter adects both cancer and autoimmunity, with implications for immunotherapeutics.I...

IIG seminar “ Myeloid-derived IL-33 intersects with neuronal immunity ”
This seminar will be given by Dr. Herbert who has made important contributions towards understanding mechanisms controlling development of alternatively activated macrophages and Type 2 inflammation within the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. His recent findings reveal a previously undescribed mechanism of intercellular cross-talk wherein “ itch ” neuron activation reshapes myeloid cytokine expression patterns to alter skin composition for cutaneous immunity against invasive pathogens.Air date: 5/15/2024 4:00:00 PM (Source: Videocast - All Events)
