Intracytoplasmic sperm injection versus in vitro fertilization in infertile women with thyroid autoimmunity
CONCLUSION: We observed that the use of ICSI in women with TAI was not associated with better assisted reproductive outcomes compared to IVF. Further prospective clinical trials are needed to confirm our findings.PMID:38623805 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0676 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

A preliminary evaluation of the diagnostic performance of a smartphone-based machine learning-assisted system for evaluation of clinical activity score in digital images of thyroid-associated orbitopathy
CONCLUSIONS: Our smartphone-based ML-assisted system shows reasonable accuracy in detecting active TAO, comparable to oculoplastic specialists and outperforming residents and general ophthalmologists. It may enable reliable self-monitoring for disease activity, but confirmatory research is needed for clinical application.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT05731154.PMID:38623815 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0621 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

The perioperative period of heart transplantation is affected by thyroid hormone status
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that TH status plays a fundamental role in HTx patients, and extended monitoring of TH status in the perioperative period is highly advised as it might contribute to fewer complications and better survival in the short- and long-term.PMID:38613807 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0628 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Neutropenia occurs more often under carbimazole (CBZ) than under methimazole (MMI) treatment in pediatric Graves' disease patients
Conclusions Neutropenia occurred significantly more often under CBZ than MMI. As this is potentially due to higher immunogenicity, we suggest that children with GD should be treated with MMI. Frequent measurements of ANC may be needed to detect severe agranulocytosis, although low pre-treatment ANC may not necessarily be a contraindication to ATD treatment. Young age may be potentially associated with an increased risk of reduced ANC. Further investigation is necessary to fully understand risk factors for neutropenia in children with GD.PMID:38613811 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0673 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the Am...

Analysis of Serum Free Thyroxine Concentrations in Healthy Term Neonates Underlines Need for Local and Laboratory-Specific Reference Interval: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Individual Participant Data
Conclusions: We conclude that our attempts at normalizing fT4 assay results were unsuccessful. Confounders related to our unsuccessful analysis may be assay related and/or biological. These findings have significant implications for patient care, since relying on RIs from literature may result in erroneous interpretation of results. Therefore, we strongly recommend to establish local RIs for accurate interpretation of serum fT4 concentrations in neonates.PMID:38563802 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0562 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)
