Effectiveness of repeated low-level red light in myopia prevention and myopia control
CONCLUSION: RLRL effectively delayed myopia progression in children with myopia and reduced the incidence of myopia in premyopic children. Moreover, RLRL exhibited a stronger impact on myopic children compared with premyopic individuals.PMID:38631861 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-324260 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Social history and glaucoma progression: the effect of body mass index, tobacco and alcohol consumption on the rates of structural change in patients with glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: In a large clinical population with glaucoma, habits of tobacco and alcohol consumption showed no significant effect on the rates of RNFL change. Higher BMI was significantly associated with slower rates of RNFL loss.PMID:38621956 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-323186 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Predictive model for iris melanoma
CONCLUSIONS: The predictive model provides direct diagnostic prediction of the lesion being iris melanoma expressed as probability (%). Use of a prediction calculator (app) can enhance decision-making and patient counselling. Further refinements can be undertaken with additional datasets, forming the basis for automated diagnosis.PMID:38609162 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-324558 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Manhattan Vision Screening and Follow-up Study (NYC-SIGHT): a nested cross-sectional assessment of falls risk within a cluster randomised trial
CONCLUSION: This study detected a significant amount of falls risk in an underserved population. The STEADI Falls Risk screening questions were easy for eye care providers to ask, were highly predictive of falls risk and may be adequate for referral to occupational health and/or physical therapy.PMID:38609163 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-323052 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Relapse in ocular tuberculosis: relapse rate, risk factors and clinical management in a non-endemic country
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that approximately one-third of patients with OTB will experience relapse after achieving clinical inactivity. The initial disease course and poor response to treatment predict the likelihood of relapse in the long-term follow-up. Topical corticosteroids were particularly effective in relapse presenting as anterior uveitis.PMID:38609164 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2024-325207 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Role of lens in early refractive development: evidence from a large cohort of Chinese children
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that during early refractive development, refractions cluster around or above +1.00 D. There is a pushback process in which increases in the rate of LP occur in parallel with increases in axial elongation.PMID:38604621 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2023-324882 (Source: The British Journal of Ophthalmology)
