Do you know the difference between snoring and sleep apnea?
While people with sleep apnea snore, both terms do not describe the same thing. Snoring is just snoring. Sleeping is when your breathing is interrupted while you sleep. Its a very dangerous condition. There are people who snore and its completely harmless. One way to figure out if you suffer from sleep apnea is to quantify how tired you feel after a full nights sleep. People who have sleep apnea tend to feel tired even though they just woke up from what should have been a great nights sleep. Another common sign is if you wake up with a scratchy throat. If you know a loved one who snores at night, encourage them to get thei...

Hello again from Nduruma!
Hello again from VP3! It’s been a while since we last checked in, and we’ve been up to a lot here in Nduruma. We’ve added a steady stream of community teachings to the schedule, and are now familiar faces at all of the schools in the ward. We’ve kicked off our district-wide soccer tournament with a hard fought game between the mzungus and the Mzimuni team, and we are also busy planning community day and a few more testing days. Soon we will add getting nostalgic about our time here in Nduruma to our list of activities. Upon some reflection fueled by chipsi mayai, we’ve come to realize we’ve all grown in differe...

Marurani Update!
Ten. The number of days we have left to squeeze in community day, the rest of our testings, and as many teachings as possible. The number of days we have left in the village. The number of days we have left in Tanzania. It’s safe to say that this number shocks all of us and it’s hard to believe that of the two months we started with, ten days is all that remains. While we’ve been here, we’ve taught a huge variety of people, at a huge variety of places. We’ve taught at schools, soccer pitches, farms, pubs, churches, mama’s groups, investing groups, and people simply standing by the side of the road. And all the ...

We finished our curriculum at Hayatul Islamic Secondary School. Not only did we meet with each form for the last time, we also started a Peer Education club. This club is supposed to continue teaching fellow students and their local community about HIV and AIDS. We prepared them to take on this task during their orientation that consisted of making a constitution, voting for officers and doing practice teachings. When we return from break,...
