The Use of Therapy Dogs in the Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccination at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus
We report the experiences at a COVID-19 vaccination center after authorizing children's vaccines. When the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years was authorized for emergency use, we adapted the center's space to receive children, adding cartoon posters and balloons and using children's adhesive bandages, among others. Located at a Campus with six health professional schools, medical students dressed as storybook or movie characters. Prevalences of Hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and Cardiovascular Disease in a Cohort of Puerto Ricans with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
CONCLUSION: Our data indicate that HTN and T2DM are highly prevalent in NAFLD patients in PR; however, CVD prevalence was lower than expected. Investigation of the Relationship of Nesfatin-1, Adropin Levels and Claudin-2, Renalase Immunoreactivity with Kidney Function in an Experimental Hypertension Model
CONCLUSION: Our results showed that claudin-2 and renalase are associated with renal glomerular and tubular dysfunction and may play discrete roles in the pathogenesis of hypertension. Ophthalmologic Findings in a Premature Infant leading to a Zika Diagnosis during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Report
We report on the first case of congenital Zika syndrome to be identified during the COVID-19 pandemic in Puerto Rico. The Zika virus (ZIKV) infection was first seen in Puerto Rico in December 2015. It is a flavivirus with vertical transmission, spreading from infected mothers to their fetuses and having a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, of which microcephaly is the most worrisome.
