Professional identity and GP trainers as educational leaders
Educ Prim Care. 2024 Apr 23:1-5. doi: 10.1080/14739879.2024.2329891. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGP training in the UK has a long history of success, however that is measured. That success is in part due to the formality and credentialling that underlies preparation to take on that role of a GP teacher, which is somewhat under current threat due to workforce pressures. We identify three important factors associated with the GP trainer function [leadership, professional identity and clinical care improvement] that are not often analysed but are at some risk if preparation for the GP trainer role is reduced or devalued. The association between depressive symptoms and executive function in type 1 diabetes population: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: In summary, the seven studies in this review suggest that individuals with T1DM who report depressive symptoms are at a higher risk of poor executive function; a clear association between depressive symptoms and executive function in individuals with T1DM remains inconclusive. There is a need to explore this relationship in the future.PMID:38653620 | DOI:10.1016/j.pcd.2024.04.001 (Source: Primary Care)

Primary Technology Enhanced Care Home HbA1c Testing (PTEC HAT) programme: a feasibility pilot study in Singapore
CONCLUSION: Our findings support home HbA1c testing by patients coupled with telemonitoring and teleconsultations. Following are practical recommendations for the implementation scaling phase: offering PTEC HAT Programme to suitable patients who are self-motivated and have adequate digital literacy, provision of adequate educational and training support, sending reminders and exploring enabling manual submission of HbA1c readings considering Bluetooth-related challenges.PMID:38654201 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02373-w (Source: Primary Care)

"They are saying it's high, but I think it's quite low": exploring cardiovascular disease risk communication in NHS health checks through video-stimulated recall interviews with patients - a qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Effective communication of CVD risk within NHSHC remains challenging, and lifetime risk metrics still lead to mixed levels of understanding in patients. However, visual presentation of information, alongside risk manipulation during NHSHCs can help to increase understanding and prompt risk-reducing lifestyle changes.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN10443908. The Effectiveness of an Information-Motivation Behavioral Skill Health Promotion Video on Health Status Among Chiang Mai University Personnel During the COVID-19 Pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study demonstrate the efficacy of video in educating, motivating, and developing health-promoting skills among this population. After watching the video, CMU personnel increased their awareness of chronic disease risk factors, health promotion practice, illnesses prevention, healthy behaviors, and improvement of quality of life.PMID:38644773 | DOI:10.1177/21501319241246396 (Source: Primary Care)

Factors associated with development of retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at onset and within three years after diagnosis
CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that the risk of developing diabetes retinopathy is present early on at onset and within the first three years of diabetes diagnosis. This highlights the importance of promptly regulating glucose- and blood-pressure levels and follow up kidney dysfunction to mitigate the risk of diabetes retinopathy.PMID:38647202 | DOI:10.1080/02813432.2024.2329215 (Source: Primary Care)

Understanding suboptimal insulin use in type 1 and 2 diabetes: a cross-sectional survey of healthcare providers who treat people with diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: Other studies have shown that PwD frequently experience suboptimal insulin dosing. Conversely, results from this study showed that HCPs believe suboptimal insulin dosing among PwD is limited in frequency. While no direct comparisons were made in this study, this apparent discrepancy could lead to difficulties in HCPs giving PwD the best advice on optimal insulin management. Approaches such as improving the objectivity of dose measurements for both PwD and HCPs may improve associated communications and help reduce suboptimal insulin dosing, thus enhancing treatment outcomes.PMID:38649812 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-02...

The relationship between relational continuity and family physician follow-up after an antidepressant prescription in older adults: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings do not provide strong evidence of a relationship between relational continuity of care and higher quality management of antidepressant prescriptions. However, the relationship is slightly more pronounced in rural communities where access to continuous primary care and specialized mental health services is more limited. This may support the ongoing need for the recruitment and retention of primary care providers in rural communities.PMID:38649823 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02361-0 (Source: Primary Care)
