Evaluation of perioperative risk factors in pediatric patients with left ventricle outflow tract obstruction
CONCLUSIONS: It is critical to identify predictive factors to prevent postoperative complications in pediatric patients undergoing surgery for LVOTO. Preoperative NLR, intraoperative platelet transfusion, and postoperative calcium, glucose, pH and AST levels may help in the prediction of complications.PMID:38283550 | PMC:PMC10809815 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2023.134161 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Fate of the moderately diseased aorta: a single-center experience
CONCLUSIONS: Ascending aorta replacement with a tube graft remodeled the aortic root and did not allow progressive dilatation of the aortic arch. In patients with moderate ascending aorta dilatation, the unreplaced ascending aorta and aortic root remained relatively stable but the aortic arch increased slightly during follow-up.PMID:38283551 | PMC:PMC10809811 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2023.134131 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

A systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate blood levels of interleukin-6 in lung cancer patients
CONCLUSIONS: The study found that the publication year and quality score of the studies were positively associated with the level of IL-6, while the sample size was inversely related. The research suggests that measuring IL-6 levels in the blood could be useful for detecting and monitoring LC as it appears to be a reliable biomarker.PMID:38283553 | PMC:PMC10809806 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2023.134177 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Radiotherapy for tumors of the mediastinum - state of the art
Kardiochir Torakochirurgia Pol. 2023 Dec;20(4):255-262. doi: 10.5114/kitp.2023.134132. Epub 2024 Jan 11.ABSTRACTMediastinal tumors encompass a diverse range of malignancies, originating within or spreading to the mediastinum. The administration of radiotherapy within the anatomical confines of the mediastinum presents unique challenges owing to the close proximity of critical organs, including the heart, lungs, esophagus, and spinal cord. However, recent progress in imaging techniques, treatment modalities, and our understanding of tumor biology has significantly contributed to the development of effective and safe therape...

Image-guided techniques for localization of pulmonary nodules during video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery lobectomy
Kardiochir Torakochirurgia Pol. 2023 Dec;20(4):251-254. doi: 10.5114/kitp.2023.134162. Epub 2024 Jan 11.ABSTRACTIn the modern era when screening and early surveillance of pulmonary nodules are increasing in importance, the management of the pulmonary nodule represents a different challenge to thoracic surgeons. The difficulty lies in the merging of sound surgical and oncological principles with more minimally invasive and appropriate lung-sparing surgery. The success rates of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) resection for smaller as well as subsolid nodules have increased as a result of radiologists' preoperativ...
