Safety of non-standard regimen of systemic steroid therapy in patients with Graves' orbitopathy: a single-centre experience
CONCLUSIONS: Active GO treatment with high-dose systemic GCs is not associated with serious side effects. Hyperglycemia is the most common steroid-induced complication.PMID:38273183 | PMC:PMC10830746 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00567-0 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Systematic update to the mammalian relative potency estimate database and development of best estimate toxic equivalency factors for dioxin-like compounds
This study systematically updated the relative potency (REP) database underlying the 2005 WHO TEFs and applied advanced methods for quantitative integration of study quality and dose-response. Data obtained from fifty-one publications more than doubled the size of the previous REP database (∼1300 datasets). REP quality and relevance for these data was assessed via application of a consensus-based weighting framework. Using Bayesian dose-response modeling, available data were modeled to produce standardized dose/concentration-response Hill curves. Study quality and REP data were synthesized via Bayesian meta-analysis to i...

The role of bidirectional communication between the adipokines and the endogenous opioid system in an experimental mouse model of colitis-associated colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: EOS and adiponectin-related signaling may play a role in the pathogenesis of CRC and these systems may present some additivity during carcinogenesis.PMID:38236555 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00566-1 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Reno-protective effect of protocatechuic acid is independent of sex-related differences in murine model of UUO-induced kidney injury
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest a differential gender response to UUO-induced kidney injury with males being more sensitive to UUO-induced kidney inflammation, fibrosis, and apoptosis than age-matched females. Importantly, PCA treatment reduced UUO-induced kidney injury in a sex-independent manner which might be attributed to its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and anti-apoptotic properties.PMID:38214881 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00565-2 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Contribution of changes in the orexin system and energy sensors in the brain in depressive disorder  - a study in an animal model
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that prenatal DEX treatment is associated with cognitive dysfunction and alterations in various proteins leading to metabolic changes in the frontal cortex, while in the hippocampus adaptation mechanisms were activated. The presented results imply that different pathophysiological metabolic processes may be involved in depression development, which may be useful in the search for novel therapies.PMID:38194217 | PMC:PMC10830606 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00559-0 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

The impact of brivaracetam on cognitive processes and anxiety in various experimental models
CONCLUSIONS: BRV may cause transient memory deficits as well as anxiety disturbances. However, the results are varied and depend on the type of memory, used dose, and duration of administration.PMID:38182968 | PMC:PMC10830775 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-023-00564-3 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)
