Impact of COVID-19 restrictions on self-poisoning behaviour with mild analgesics in Danish youth
CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that the restrictions enforced during the second lockdown greatly impacted youth mental health, especially girls, leading to an 85% increase in self-poisonings. We hope for increased awareness of mental health in children and adolescents during possible future lockdowns.PMID:38625374 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2339433 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Variation in opinions on coercion use among mental healthcare professionals: a questionnaire study
CONCLUSION: There is a high degree of variation in coercion use. This study suggests that this variation persists despite staff members being confronted with the same standardized situations. There is a need for evidence-based further guidance to minimize coercion in critical mental healthcare situations.PMID:38626028 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2341928 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

The burden for clinical services of persons with an intellectual disability or mental disorder convicted of criminal offences: A birth cohort study of 14,605 persons followed to age 64
CONCLUSION: Sub-groups of cohort members with ID or mental disorders were convicted of violent and non-violent crimes to age 64 suggesting the need for treatment of primary disorders and for antisocial/aggressive behavior. Many patients engaging in violence could be identified at first contact with clinical services.PMID:38613517 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2337192 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Exploring volumetric abnormalities in subcortical L-HPA axis structures in pediatric generalized anxiety disorder
CONCLUSION: The BLA, vSC, and MDm are believed to be involved in the regulation of anxiety and stress, both individually and collectively through the excitation and inhibition of the L-HPA axis. All were found to be enlarged in children with GAD, perhaps reflecting hypertrophy related to hyperexcitability, or early neuronal overgrowth. Longitudinal studies should investigate the relationship between these early morphological differences and the long-term subcortical atrophy previously observed.PMID:38573199 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2335980 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

Exploring levels of TSH and FT4 in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia (FM) and healthy controls did not reveal any associations between fatigue score and level of thyroid hormones
CONCLUSION: As one might clinically and physiologically expect an association between thyroid function and fatigue, which may be associated with clinical disorders such as CFS and FM, we suggest future studies to examine the field further by exploring the influence of thyroid receptors and responses of the thyroid hormone cascade.PMID:38557370 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2332442 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)

A quality assurance study of the development of quality of care in outpatient clinics for treatment of addiction in Greenland
CONCLUSION: For documentation and content, the quality level has increased significantly with time, and the quality of case notes is at an excellent level at the final audits of all treatment centers.PMID:38557415 | DOI:10.1080/08039488.2024.2329583 (Source: Nordic Journal of Psychiatry)
