Effect of transcranial direct current stimulation and transcranial magnetic stimulation on the cognitive function of individuals with Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression
DISCUSSION: Anodal tDCS and 20 Hz TMS have demonstrated the ability to improve cognitive function in AD by modulating neural activity. These therapies are safe and well-tolerated, offering promise as adjuncts to available pharmacological treatments. Studies with greater methodological rigor and parameter standardization are warranted. Comprehensive investigations involving neuroimaging techniques may provide a better understanding of the interaction between induced electrical fields and the complex neural networks affected in AD, paving the way for more personalized and effective neurostimulation approaches.PMID:38634361 |...

Changes in retinal nerve fiber layer thickness may be the cause of post-COVID-19 headaches
CONCLUSION: In this study, a correlation between headache and changes in RNLF after COVID-19 infection was found. It may have wider ramifications to look into the COVID-19-associated headache phenotype of people with a history of migraines, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of migraine pathogenesis. This relationship can provide further insight into this infection.PMID:38625389 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2340875 (Source: Neurological Research)

Non-lesional epilepsy does not necessarily convey poor outcomes after invasive monitoring followed by resection or thermal ablation
Neurol Res. 2024 Apr 11:1-9. doi: 10.1080/01616412.2024.2340879. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: We aimed to compare outcomes including seizure-free status at the last follow-up in adult patients with medically refractory focal epilepsy identified as lesional vs. non-lesional based on their magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings who underwent invasive evaluation followed by subsequent resection or thermal ablation (LiTT).METHODS: We identified 88 adult patients who underwent intracranial monitoring between 2014 and 2021. Of those, 40 received resection or LiTT, and they were dichotomized based on MRI findings, ...

The level of cytokines in tears as a novel indicator of demyelinating diseases
CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that MS and other demyelination diseases lead to decrease in the overall level of cytokines in tears. Further research is needed to determine the role of tear fluid in the assessment of demyelinating disorders like MS.PMID:38602307 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2337502 (Source: Neurological Research)

Correlation between plasma lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 levels and risk of ischaemic stroke recurrence by gender in the Chinese population
CONCLUSION: Elevated plasma Lp-PLA2 is an independent risk factor for recurrent ischaemic stroke but is not strongly associated with the degree of cerebral damage. The predictive value of baseline Lp-PLA2 for stroke recurrence risk was higher in females than in males.PMID:38602308 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2340886 (Source: Neurological Research)

Serum globulin in children with myasthenia gravis: predicting relapse and prognosis
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated globulin levels in children with MG on admission predicts a high relapse rate and poor long-term therapeutic efficacies.PMID:38602312 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2024.2340883 (Source: Neurological Research)
