The effect of statins on the risk of anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury among patients with active tuberculosis: A cohort study
CONCLUSION: Statin treatment had a protective effect against the risk of anti-TB DILI with a positive dose-response relationship.PMID:38632021 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.04.002 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Complete response to front-line therapies is associated with long-term survival in HIV-related lymphomas in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: PLWH with DLBCL or BL had OS rates compatible to patients without HIV infection. Better outcomes for patients achieving CR to front-line therapy and those with shorter cART duration before lymphoma diagnosis suggest an underlying biological distinction in the lymphomas and the involvement of immunity, which warrants further studies.PMID:38632022 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.04.001 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Epidemiology and antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Enterobacterales causing bloodstream infections before and during COVID-19 pandemic: Results of the Study for Monitoring Antimicrobial Resistance Trends (SMART) in Taiwan, 2018-2021
CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 pandemic appears to be associated with a general decrease in antimicrobial susceptibility rates among Enterobacterales causing BSIs in Taiwan. Continuous surveillance is crucial to monitor antimicrobial resistance during the pandemic and in the future.PMID:38632023 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.04.004 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Influenza and the risk of active tuberculosis occurrence among individuals with latent tuberculosis infection: A national cohort study in South Korea (2015-2020)
CONCLUSIONS: In individuals with LTBI not receiving TPT, experiencing an influenza episode may elevate the risk of developing active TB.PMID:38627123 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.04.003 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Revisiting the association between vitamin D deficiency and active tuberculosis: A prospective case-control study in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: VDD is an independent risk factor for incident active TB. Future randomized trials examining the effect of vitamin D supplementation on TB incidence should focus on people with a low BMI or other risk factors to maximize the statistical power.PMID:38594108 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.03.005 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

A novel KPC-166 in ceftazidime/avibactam resistant ST307 Klebsiella pneumoniae causing an outbreak in intensive care COVID Unit, Italy
DISCUSSION: This novel variant confers CZA-resistance and carbapenems susceptibility restoration. As KPC-166 was found expressed by multiple Kp clones, greater efforts should be made to prevent the further dissemination of such strains in Italian clinical settings.PMID:38584042 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.03.004 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

ddPCR enables rapid detection of bloodstream infections in patients on home parenteral nutrition: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: ddPCR showed a high sensitivity and specificity relative to blood cultures and enables rapid pathogen detection and characterization. Clinical studies should explore if integrated ddPCR and blood culture outcomes enables a more rapid pathogen guided CLABSI treatment and enhancing patient outcomes.PMID:38575399 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.03.003 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Molnupiravir for the treatment of COVID-19 outpatients: An updated meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Molnupiravir does not decrease mortality and hospitalization rates in immunized patients with COVID-19. However, it does shorten the disease course and increases the recovery rate. The use of molnupiravir will need to be considered on a case-by-case basis in the context of the prevailing social circumstances, the resource setting, drug costs, and the healthcare burden.PMID:38555274 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.03.002 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)
