Primary thoracic aorta angiosarcoma presenting with thromboembolism and progressive claudication despite anticoagulation
AbstractPrimary aortic angiosarcomas (PAA) are rare angiosarcomas, frequently diagnosed in advanced stages due to initial misdiagnosis. This case describes a 66-year-old woman, initially presenting with a distal thoracic aorta thrombus and symptomatic bilateral popliteal emboli. Despite initial management and therapeutic anticoagulation, she experienced progressive lower limb claudication and 12  months following initial presentation she re-presented with an obstructing distal thoracic aorta mass and metastatic disease. Histopathology confirmed metastatic epithelioid angiosarcoma. Despite urgent palliative radiotherapy, ...

Utility of 30 ‐day mortality as a quality metric for palliative radiation treatment: A population‐based analysis from Queensland, Australia
ConclusionThe 30-day mortality rate in Queensland following PRT is higher than expected and there is scope to reduce unnecessarily protracted treatment schedules. We encourage other Australian and New Zealand centres to examine and report their own 30-day mortality rate following PRT and would support collaboration for 30-day mortality to become a national and international quality metric for radiation oncology centres. Hypofractionated radiation therapy combined with androgen deprivation therapy for high ‐risk localized prostate cancer
ConclusionDefinitive RT with moderate hypofractionation combined with long-term ADT showed good efficacy for high-risk localized prostate cancer. The lowest PSA nadir was significantly associated with a low recurrence rate, indicating the importance of PSA follow-up. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Managing vestibular schwannomas with radiosurgery and radiotherapy: AGREE II appraisal of clinical practice guidelines
ConclusionCurrent CPGs on the management of VSs with radiosurgery and radiotherapy are of acceptable quality but would greatly benefit from improvements in applicability, stakeholder involvement, editorial independence and rigour of development. We recommend CPG authors reference the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) guideline as a developmental framework with the Congress of Neurological Surgeons/American Association of Neurological Surgeons (CNS/AANS) CPG being a valid alternative. Long ‐term outcomes of definitive radiation with volumetric modulated arc therapy and concurrent chemotherapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the anus in a regional Australian cancer centre
ConclusionOutcomes for anal SCC after definitive chemoradiotherapy using VMAT in our regional cancer centre results in low rates of grade 3/4 toxicity, high rates of organ preservation and excellent survival outcomes. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

Established advanced practice roles in radiation therapy: A scoping review
AbstractAdvanced practitioners are healthcare professionals that are highly skilled with a particular area of expertise. These roles have been successfully implemented in many healthcare settings, improving efficiency of the service, as well as enhancing the standard of care received by patients. Although advanced practice roles have been implemented in some radiation therapy departments, their implementation have yet to be facilitated in the majority of countries. The purpose of this review is to scope the literature available regarding established advanced practice roles in radiation therapy. The PRISMA strategy for the ...

Thirty ‐day mortality after palliative radiotherapy in advanced cancer patients: Optimizing end‐of‐life care in Asia
ConclusionAlmost one-third of the patients received PRT in the last 30  days of life. The use of hypofractionation for PRT was low in this Asian population. Further research is necessary to develop a predictive model of early mortality, allowing tailored end-of-life care for Asian patients. (Source: Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology)

A cost outcome study of varicocoele embolisation and future pregnancy in an Australian public hospital setting
ConclusionTotal varicocoele embolisation cost and the cost per-pregnancy were lower than for both embolisation and surgical repair in existing international studies. Patients undergoing varicocoele treatment should have the option to access an interventional radiologist to realise the benefits of this low-cost pinhole procedure.
