Accumulated Hard Tissue Debris and Root Canal Shaping Profiles Following Instrumentation with Gentlefile, One Curve, and Reciproc Blue
This laboratory study aimed to evaluate the accumulated hard tissue debris (AHTD) and shaping performance following root canal instrumentation with a novel stainless steel rotary system (Gentlefile ®; MedicNRG, Kibbutz Afikim, Israel) compared with two single-file nickel-titanium instruments of different kinematics through micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) analysis. The effect of unintentional AH-Plus sealer extrusion on resolution of apical periodontitis after root canal treatment and retreatment – a retrospective case-control study.
This study aimed to investigate the effect of unintentional AH Plus ® sealer extrusion on the outcome of nonsurgical root canal treatment and retreatment in teeth with apical periodontitis (AP) compared to teeth with AP and no sealer extrusion at the 1-year follow-up. Methods: In a retrospective case-control study conducted from September 2016 to September 2021, te eth presenting clinical and radiographic signs of AP prior to treatment were included. The study comprised two groups: AH Plus® sealer extrusion (n=60): initial root canal treatment or nonsurgical retreatment with unintentional apical extrusion of AH Plus® se...

Diabetes mellitus increases the risk of apical periodontitis in endodontically-treated teeth: a meta-analysis from 15 studies
At present, the incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is gradually increasing globally. In clinical practice, many diabetic patients with apical periodontitis (AP) have poor and slow healing of periapical lesions. However, the potential relationship between the two is still unclear and controversial. The consensus is that DM can be deemed a risk factor for AP in endodontically-treated teeth. Therefore, we pooled existing studies and carried out a meta-analysis to explore the potential association between the two. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Current Management of Dens Evaginatus Teeth based on Pulpal Diagnosis
Dens evaginatus (DE) is a dental anomaly with a supernumerary tubercle projection that typically contains dentin and pulp tissue. However, the tubercle projection can fracture, exposing the dentin and potentially the dental pulp, which induces pulpal diseases. Managing DE should be primarily based on the clinical diagnosis of the pulp. The prophylactic management of the tubercle of DE teeth with a normal pulp should be performed as early as possible by the prep-and-fill technique or the reinforcement technique to preserve tooth vitality and continued root development, with the former reported to be superior compared with t...

Genome-wide association study identifies novel risk loci for apical periodontitis
Apical periodontitis (AP) is a common consequence of root canal infection leading to periapical bone resorption. Microbial and host genetic factors, and their interactions, have been shown to play a role in AP development and progression. Variations in a few genes have been reported in association with AP, however, the lack of genome-wide studies has hindered progress in understanding the mechanisms involved in AP. Here, we report the first genome-wide association study of AP in a large and well-characterized population. (Source: Journal of Endodontics)

Process-Related Factors are as Important as Outcomes for Patients Undergoing Nonsurgical Root Canal Treatment, Nonsurgical Root Canal Retreatment, and Endodontic Microsurgery
There is considerable variation in the reporting of treatment outcomes in endodontics. Patient-centered outcomes are often inadequately reported in endodontic outcome studies. This paper explores patients ’ expectations and reported outcomes in nonsurgical root canal treatment (NS-RCT), nonsurgical root canal retreatment (NS-ReTx), and endodontic microsurgery (EMS).
