Effect of 23 ‑hydroxybetulinic acid on lung adenocarcinoma and its mechanism of action
In conclusion, Pulsatilla compounds were indicated to inhibit the viability and proliferation of lung adenocarcinoma H1299 cells, and the mechanism of action was related to PPAR-γ, the PPAR signaling pathway and mitochondrial ROS. The present study provides novel insight to further explore the treatment of lung adenocarcinoma.PMID:38633355 | PMC:PMC11019653 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2024.12527 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Icariin ‑curcumol promotes ferroptosis in prostate cancer cells through Nrf2/HO‑1 signaling
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 26;27(5):232. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12519. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTFerroptosis is a form of regulatory cell death that relies on iron and reactive oxygen species (ROS) to inhibit tumors. The present study aimed to investigate whether icariin-curcumol could be a novel ferroptosis inducer in tumor inhibition. Various concentrations of icariin-curcumol were used to stimulate prostate cell lines (RWPE-2, PC-3, VCAP and DU145). Small interfering negative control (si-NC) and si-nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) were used to transfect DU145 cells. Cell viability was determined by using...

New treatment strategies for uterine sarcoma using secreted frizzled ‑related proteins
In conclusion, SFRP4 may suppress the viability and migration, and enhance the adhesion of sarcoma cells. These results suggested that SFRP4 could be considered as a novel therapeutic target for uterine sarcoma.PMID:38628655 | PMC:PMC11019650 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2024.12520 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Deep lymph node enlargement and renal failure caused by hypercalcemia ‑associated sarcoidosis: A case report
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):235. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12524. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTSarcoidosis is a rare disease that severely affects the lungs and superficial lymph nodes. In addition, this disease can also affect the skin, eyes and kidneys to varying degrees. The present report described a 32-year-old male patient who was admitted to Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (Wuhan, China) due to joint pain in the extremities. He was diagnosed with uncorrectable hypercalcemia. A lymph node biopsy revealed the hypercalcemia to be associated with sarcoidosis, with the patient also demonstrating renal failure and lym...

Crucial role of lncRNA NONHSAG037054.2 and GABPA, and their related functional networks, in ankylosing spondylitis
In conclusion, NONHSAG037054.2 and GABPA are associated with AS. GABPA was downregulated in AS, and it could serve as a novel diagnostic factor for AS.PMID:38628657 | PMC:PMC11019654 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2024.12525 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Selected markers of ovarian cancer and their relation to targeted therapy (Review)
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):236. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12523. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTDespite advances in surgical treatment techniques and chemotherapy-including anti-angiogenic and immune poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors, the 5-year survival rate in ovarian cancer (OC) remains low. The reasons for this are the diagnosis of cancer in advanced clinical stages, chemoresistance and cancer recurrence. New therapeutic approaches are being developed, including the search for new biomarkers that are also targets for targeted therapy. The present review describes new molecular markers with relevance to targeted th...

Vasculitis and infectious risk in a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A case report
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):234. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12522. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTThe connection between vasculitis and infection is complex. The present study described a typical situation for a patient with unbalanced type 2 diabetes and chronic complications, in which a lack of adherence to the protection and care measures ultimately led to the appearance of some of the worst consequences of the condition, namely, ulceration, gangrene and amputation. In the context of an unstable condition with significant metabolic imbalance there was an impaired response to infections in the present patient, and the amput...

Investigation of autophagy ‑related genes and immune infiltration in calcific aortic valve disease: A bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 26;27(5):233. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12521. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to elucidate the role of autophagy-related genes (ARGs) in calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) and their potential interactions with immune infiltration via experimental verification and bioinformatics analysis. A total of three microarray datasets (GSE12644, GSE51472 and GSE77287) were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, and gene set enrichment analysis was performed to identify the relationship between autophagy and CAVD. After differentially expressed genes and differentially expressed ...

A prospective analysis of the efficacy of phase II autologous skin grafting on deep second ‑degree burns on the dorsum of the hand
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):238. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12526. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility of reducing the damage to the donor site while preserving the functional recovery of the dorsum of the hand following burn injury. An attempt was made to analyze the effect of a phased surgery approach on inflammatory indicators. A two-phase treatment was administered on a total of 64 patients with deep second-degree burns on the dorsum of the hand who were admitted to Guangzhou Red Cross Hospital between January 2020 and March 2023. During phase I treatment, the wou...
