An evaluation of the performance of SCORE Sweden 2015 in estimating cardiovascular risk: The Northern Sweden MONICA Study 1999-2014
Conclusion The 2015 SCORE Sweden more adequately than 2003 SCORE Sweden predicts the number of deaths. In 2014, the proportion of high-risk individuals is small in northern Sweden. The main use of 2015 SCORE Sweden would therefore be as an educational tool between the physician and people without diabetes or CVD in a consultation regarding cardiovascular risk. Long-term exposure to traffic-related air pollution and cancer among survivors of myocardial infarction: A 20-year follow-up study
Conclusions Chronic exposure to traffic-related air pollution may constitute an environmental risk factor for cancer post-myocardial infarction. Variation in the strength of association between specific cancers needs to be explored further. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Regular exercise behaviour and intention and symptoms of anxiety and depression in coronary heart disease patients across Europe: Results from the EUROASPIRE III survey
Conclusions Lower frequency of regular exercise and decreased likelihood of exercise intention were observed in CHD patients with severe depressive symptoms. Severe symptoms of depression may preclude CHD patients from performing regular exercise. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Are recent statin recommendations to employ fixed doses and abandon targets effective for treatment of hypercholesterolaemia? Investigation based on number needed to treat
Conclusion For optimum clinical effectiveness, initial LDL-C concentration must be considered in deciding whether a target will allow a greater decrease in LDL-C and thus a lower NNT than a fixed dose regimen. Individual variation in the LDL-C response to statins also makes post-treatment cholesterol measurement essential. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Yoga for metabolic syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion Based on the results of this meta-analysis, no recommendation can be made for or against yoga in order to influence the parameters of metabolic syndrome. Despite methodological drawbacks, and until further research is undertaken, yoga can be preliminarily considered as a safe and effective intervention for reducing waist circumference and systolic blood pressure in individuals with metabolic syndrome who are not adhering to conventional forms of exercise. Use of smokeless tobacco and risk of cardiovascular disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion An association was found between ever use of ST and risk of fatal IHD and stroke, consistent with previous reviews. ST consumption also appears to significantly increase risk of non-fatal IHD among users in Asia, but not in Europe. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Cardiovascular disease in patients with genotyped familial hypercholesterolemia in Norway during 1994-2009, a registry study
Conclusion Most cardiovascular disease hospitalisations were due to ischaemic heart disease. Familial hypercholesterolaemia patients were first time hospitalised at age 45.1 years, with no significant sex differences in age, which are important novel findings. The awareness and registration of the familial hypercholesterolaemia diagnosis during the hospital stays were disturbingly low. (Source: European Journal of Preventive Cardiology)

Pregnancy and cardiovascular risk: A review focused on women with heart disease undergoing fertility treatment
A growing number of women with heart disease are considering pregnancy with the help of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Although an ever-increasing amount of knowledge exists on pregnancy in both congenital and acquired heart disease patients, little information is available on fertility treatments specifically in these women. This review seeks to provide an overview of the existing data and explores areas in need of research in this field. Changes in the hormonal environment seen in ART patients initially entail an increase then a decrease in blood pressure and peripheral vascular resistance. A shift in the thromb...

Effects of high-intensity interval training on central haemodynamics and skeletal muscle oxygenation during exercise in patients with chronic heart failure
Conclusion HIT induced improvements in maximal exercise capacity and exercising haemodynamics at peak exercise. Improvements in recovery after submaximal exercise were associated with attenuated skeletal muscle deoxygenation during submaximal exercise, but not with changes in cardiac output kinetics, suggesting that the effect of HIT on submaximal exercise capacity is mediated by improved microvascular oxygen delivery-to-utilisation matching. Vascular age calculation and equivalent risk factors in HIV-infected patients obtained from the D:A:D risk equation
Conclusions Vascular age is a new concept derived from Framingham risk tables that can be calculated with other risk scales, such as D:A:D for HIV patients. The calculation of vascular age in HIV patients could be a useful tool for communicating cardiovascular risk and to improve the control of modifiable risk factors.
