Psychosocial stress and cancer risk: a narrative review
Conclusion Not only the stress but also the stress-induced lifestyle should be targeted for cancer prevention and treatment. Future research should include a more diverse spectrum of cancer types (not only hormonal related like breast cancer) and of stress measures while also considering behavioral covariates. Dietary acid load and the risk of cancer: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of observational studies
Conclusion Our analysis showed that high adherence to an acidogenic diet is associated with an increased risk of cancer. The protocol for this meta-analysis was registered in PROSPERO registration no. CRD42019146460. (Source: European Journal of Cancer Prevention)

MGMT in glial carcinogenesis. Roles from prevention to treatment
Many investigations exist regarding the effect of the DNA repair enzyme MGMT (O6-methylguanine- DNA-methyltransferase)-encoding gene methylation on the antineoplasticity of temozolomide in glioblastoma patients. However, there exist surprisingly lesser studies regarding the associations between MGMT enzyme biochemistry with glial carcinogenesis. MGMT involves in risk of malignancies associated with ionizing radiation, smoking, exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, vinylchloride and hairdyes. All these factors are also proposed to link with gliomagenesis, yet MGMT interactions with these carcin...

Immunogenicity and safety of a bivalent, adjuvant system 04–adjuvanted human papillomavirus vaccine in healthy female volunteers aged 15–25: a randomized, double-blind, phase III, noninferiority clinical trial
Conclusion The result analysis of this study supports the noninferiority of Papilloguard (Noyan Pajouhan Biopharma) to Cervarix (GlaxoSmithKline) in terms of safety and immunogenicity based on the GMT ratio. However, long-term comparative studies to evaluate the sustainability of GMT response and risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grades 2–3 are needed. Progress in prostate cancer prevention
After lung, prostate cancer is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer and fourth in cancer-related mortality. The etiology is largely unknown and no clear risk factors have been identified. Primary prevention is therefore challenging. Also, secondary prevention, screening, in large populations is difficult. Germline mutations are implicated in hereditary prostate cancer, accounting for about 10% of screened men. Currently, only prostate-specific antigen test is adopted for early detection but is considered insufficient to further improve prevention and care. In this opinion article, we discuss novel diagnostic biomark...

Progress in breast cancer surgical management
Evolution in breast cancer surgery has been significant over these four decades. Many scientific changes have been reached, impacting daily clinical practise, thanks to scientific research and surgeons’ efforts, always tended to warrant oncological radicality as well improve women quality of life and cosmesis. Achievements in imaging, in breast cancer molecular signature characterization and patients’ genomic profile are progressively refining a sophisticated personalization of breast cancer prevention and treatment. Progress in surgery involves both primary breast site surgery and surgical axillary staging, revealing ...

Short-term association of PM2.5/PM10 on lung cancer mortality in Wuhai city, China (2015–2019): a time series analysis
Conclusion Short-term exposure to PM2.5/PM10 was correlated with a higher risk of lung cancer death in Wuhai, particularly among men and the elderly (>65 years old). Exposure to PM2.5/PM10 really does have a bigger effect on the population during the warm season. Moreover, it is essential that health administration departments should strengthen their regulatory mechanisms for particulate emissions and take the responsibility for safeguarding the vulnerable populations. Predictors of underutilization of lung cancer screening: a machine learning approach
Lung cancer is the second common cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related death in the US. Unfavorably, the prevalence of using low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) for lung cancer prevention in the US has remained below 4% over time. The purpose of this study is to develop machine learning models to analyze interactive pathways of factors associated with lung cancer screening use with the LDCT. The study was based on the data retrieved from the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. After dealing with missing values, 86 variables and 710 samples were included in the decision tree model and the random forest m...

Preventive potential of Bacillus sonorensis exopolysaccharide upon hepatocellular carcinoma and quantitation of tumor suppressor protein p53
Conclusion The antitumor activity displayed by this compound may be of interest for further studies of its structure-activity relationship. Before application in phase 1 of the clinical study, in-vivo studies would be needed to confirm the results obtained in the hope of finding more active and selective anticancer agents for drug development in the future. 10-year prevalence of diagnostic and screening colonoscopy use in Germany: a claims data analysis
Conclusion In 2017, about 45–50% of men and women in Germany aged 60–84 years had any colonoscopy in the previous 10 years, and about 11–26% had a screening colonoscopy. Our findings suggest no relevant social or regional disparities in the utilization of colonoscopy in Germany. (Source: European Journal of Cancer Prevention)

The relative effectiveness of fecal immunochemical test-based colorectal cancer screening to detect adenomas and cancer in different demographic and socioeconomic groups. A nationwide cohort study
This study aimed at analyzing the relative effectiveness in removal of adenomas and detection of cancer of implementing colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in different demographic and socioeconomic groups. Methods This register-based retrospective cohort study included residents aged 50–72 years. Those randomly selected to be invited for CRC screening from 1 March 2014 to 30 June 2015 were classified as invited; those invited from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2017 were classified as not yet invited. Strata-specific relative risks (RRs) of having adenomas removed and CRC detected were estimated. Results A to...
