Recent technology cost forecasts underestimate the pace of technological change
(CMCC Foundation - Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change) A comparison of observed global energy technology costs, with forecasts generated by models and forecasts predicted by human experts, showed that both forecasting methods underestimated cost reductions. This suggests that decisions based on forecasts may be overestimating the cost of climate mitigation and points to the need to further improve forecasting methods. Rewiring the adult brain & mdash; Scanning the mind of a blind ‘ Batman ’ reveals that novel maps can emerge in the adult brain
(The interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya (IDC Herzliya)) The adult brain is more malleable than previously thought, according to researchers from IDC Herzliya. They trained a 50-year-old man, blind from birth, to " see " by ear, and found that neural circuits in his brain formed so-called topographic maps - a brain organization previously thought to emerge only in infancy. For women workers in India, direct deposit is 'digital empowerment'
(Yale University) The study, published in the American Economic Review, found that a relatively simple intervention directed to poor women -- providing them access to their own bank accounts and direct deposit for their earnings from a federal workfare program, along with basic training on how to use local bank kiosks -- increased the amount they worked, both in the government program and for other employers. Patients paying for unproven IVF add-on treatments
(European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) Despite only limited evidence that fertility add-ons increase the odds of having a baby, the majority of women (82%) have used one or more of these treatments as part of their IVF.This is the conclusion of a retrospective study of 1,590 Australian patients which also found more than seven in 10 (72%) had incurred additional costs for these unproven additional therapies and techniques which range from Chinese herbal medicine to endometrial scratching. Study associates organic food intake in childhood with better cognitive development
