Reviewing treatment outcomes of tuberculosis patients at Zagazig Chest Hospital (2008 –2012)
Conclusions A high rate of successful treatment is reported with application of the NTP (2012) guidelines which was associated with middle age of the patients (16–35 years), well education, mild to moderate advanced X-ray picture and absence of either history of contact with positive TB case or previous history of anti-tuberculous treatment(new case). Illiteracy, history of contact to positive TB cases, far advanced chest X-ray of pulmonary TB and previously treated cases on CAT II regimen could be considered as predictors of unsuccessful outcome. Abd El-Naby Background: Osteopontin (OPN) is a soluble cytokine glycoprotein widely expressed in many benign and malignant conditions. Purpose of study: was to investigate role of plasma OPN as new biomarker affects prognosis in CAP. Methodology: study was done on 50 subjects divided into 2 groups each 25, CAP (group I), healthy controls (group II). Plasma OPN levels were measured on initial hospitalization and after 3 days of tre...

Prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with airway obstruction using hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) in different localities of Saudi Arabia
Conclusions Asthma and COPD patients are prone to anxiety and depression more than normal populations, this lead to poor outcomes of both diseases. Summary at a glance This study included 420 subjects divided into three groups: Group I asthmatic (150) patients, group II COPD patients (150) and control group contain (120) healthy subjects. All patients and healthy subjects were instructed to answer the questionnaire of HADS. Anxiety and depression scales were calculated with prevalence of each. Anxiety and depression were more common in people with asthma and COPD. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Assessment of serum Retinol-Binding Protein-4 Levels in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive disease at intensive care unit
Conclusion Serum-Retinol-Binding Protein-4 can be used as a predictive biomarker for mortality in AECOPD. We recommend that the serum RBP4 should be taken in consideration as a part of the assessment of mortality of AECOPD patients admitted in ICU. Study of pulmonary tuberculosis in type 2 diabetes in reference to clinical, radiological presentation and response to treatment
Conclusion: Type 2 DM has no effect in the clinical presentation or the outcome of pulmonary TB, but may presented with atypical radiological presentation in presence of more than one lesion type in the same radiological film and presence of extra pleural extension; and type 2 DM is not an independent risk factors of pulmonary TB. Modelling obstructive sleep apnea susceptibility using non-invasive inflammatory biomarkers
Conclusion OSA patients have increased level of HS-CRP, ESR, and Exhaled FENO which confirm association of inflammation in OSA. These simple inflammatory markers may be used also as simple non invasive predictors to diagnose OSA. Moreover, the HS-CRP may be used as a useful parameter to predict OSA severity.
